I am visiting my cousin and uncle in VA this week. My cousin has had four loads of firewood delivered and has more coming later in the week. With where they had to dump I, Iam having to move it all in a wheelbarrow and stack it, too. In this heat and humidity, I am not getting anywhere. I am not used to working outdoors and am I overheating quickly. This, I am having to take too many breaks, but I stop when I feel a little light-headed, sit down, drink some water, and then start again. Tomorrow, I am starting earlier so it will be cooler.
That pile is as tall as me and nearly as long as my truck!

I had this same problem helping my mother-in-law move from her 800sq ft apartment into her new 1600sq ft house. Her and my wife rented a 22ft long U-haul and my wife volunteered me and my youngest (fittest) son as the muscle. I am very over-weight and not at all used to working outside in any kind of real heat. Took us two days to move all the furniture and half the boxes (one full truck load each day). I had to take several breaks for the exact same reason. It was only in the low 90's, but the humidity was 30+% one day and nearly 60% the second day. I can't believe my fat little body didn't succumb to a heart attack or heat exhaustion. Take it easy brother, not need to kill yourself over fire wood.

Back in the 80s, me and my Dad used to drive up to Big Bear to a place where you were allowed to cut your own trees for firewood. We'd get up at 4AM and head up there, he'd cut and I'd carry. Good memories

Luckily, it was a frigid 90 even around the Roanoke area, but the humidity was at 56%. I had to stop for a pretty good while as I had sweated until I couldn't. My skin was visibly salty. That's dangerous, but I cooled down and drank quite a bit of water over a period of time. I have the same issues as you being heavy and not being used to working in the heat. I probably could have managed this more when I still worked at the plant, but that was 12 years ago. Add to that the fact that working in the heat isn't as easy on someone 50+ as it was someone who was only 40.
What is sad is that I only got about a third of the pile moved inside the fence so it can be properly stacked. Another cord of wood is being delivered today. My cousin is trying to get all she will use during the winter in place, and I am trying to help her as she is in poor health and carrying for my dying uncle. She gets no help from her sister who lives in D.C. So, I have started doing what I can during the summer to help her despite living 6 1/2 hours away. She has a BIG list of things she wants me to get done this week, but there is no way without God sending angels to help that I will even get all the wood moved--much less stacked.

I ended up not having to move the wood. My cousin spoke to her pastor who has a team of around 16 people to move and properly stack all the firewood.
So, my cousin asked me if I wanted to scrape paint of the front door and repaint it. Well, old paint doesn't want to let go. I have worked for two days and still don't have it all off. I should have stuck with the wood! Some people are handymen, and some of us pay handymen.
But, even though I didn't get this job done like I wanted, my cousin was glad to have me there so I could help with my uncle who is 86 and eaten up with cancer. He still has some fight left in him, but he won't last months. His doctor said that he is living week to week right now. They have him on chemo pills, Medicare says they won't cover the next round. That will get the cancer grow unchecked. To be honest, if it were me, I would just want to be kept easy until I slipped into the arms of Jesus.
And that's been my trip to Virginia this week! I am looking forward to seeing my wife and my two unruly fur-babies.

I'm glad you were able to help out. Even if the painting didn't go like you wanted. I'm guessing just being there with your cousin for a week was a good help to her.

Is it possible for a niceboard member to see a list of all the members here? Kind of like the old Firestream site with the complete alphabetical list of all members

Night and day, brother. There's no key anymore. If I so choose, I can remotely start it. The gas mileage has substantially improved to 23/29. 170 HP instead of 147. And a thousand other variables. I was able to get $1000 trade-in to boot. Dry rot and rust were beginning to take their toll on the Hyundai, which I'd owned from '08. Plus the braking system of the Jeep...it can stop on a dime and leave you nine cents. An incredible feat of engineering to be sure.

I don't think so. Only admins, I believe, are able to see the full list.

I haven't had my own car since January. My son had a bad accident with his Jeep right when he was trying to buy a house. So I ended up giving him my 2014 Kia Forte. So now I have to share my wife's car....not fun. But she talked me into buying a golf cart which we should get in a month or so...that way I can at least go to the gym at the clubhouse.

I was wondering how Tim Mondy is doing. Haven't heard from him in years. Was gonna shoot him a PM, or see if his email was there.

Interesting looking at the list of member names. We signed up in 2007 when it flipped over from the old message board to the new niceboard. We were members for quite a while before 2007, I wonder what my actual join date was for CHM? Perhaps around 2003 or 4 ? Would've loved to read my old posts about my very first back surgery in 2005... I was a totally different person back then.

His Facebook profile is still active, but he doesn't post anything. I went back to the beginning of 2020.
