My wife goes to Guatemala once a year in January on a mission trip. During that week my son usually stays with my parents at least one night. Every year she's gone, I've made big plans for that night. "I'm gonna watch all three original Star Wars movies and order pizza!" or "I'm gonna watch a whole season of (some TV show) on Netflix and eat whatever I want!"
Every year, I've watched one movie and was in bed by 10 PM.
That sounds like me last night, spent most of the evening balancing the checkbook and paying bills online....then I fell asleep after only watching one episode of the British comedy "The IT Crowd". Ahhh the wild life.

If your life goes like mine, my wife did almost an entire week of traveling for work and then a women's retreat. I ended up with not even a single night for myself.
Well I do have to work two of those days (of which today was one).....so I likely won't get a ton of time to myself. But I am sure I will think of something to keep me busy that doesn't involve chores around the house.

Holy cow! TWO WEEKS!!! I wouldn't know what to do with myself....I would likely be seriously lonely after about 4 days.

I'm just the opposite. I am lonely in a crowd, but feel quite content when I am completely by myself. I would do quite well as a hermit, and have even picked out where I will disappear to should I ever find myself without any obligations. Those are the only things that keep me from running off now ... obligations and responsibilities. Resources as well, I suppose. A hermit still needs to eat.

Still 9 weeks before our first grandchild will be born.
When I'm alone I can eat what I want, listen to music while having supper and reading while I've to eat.

9 weeks isn't very long, I'll bet you are very excited. Do you know if they are having a boy or a girl?

Right on ! It's amazing the things we take for granted everyday... until something major and disabling hits us.
I was laying in bed a couple nights ago being very philosophical. My mind went to thinking what it would be like if I went blind. Then I thought, omg you'd never be able to see things again ! What if a spider crawled on you ? You'd swat it away, but wouldn't know where it went, so you couldn't stay in that bed... My mind began wandering onto SO many crazy and kinda funny silly things...
Anyone else get philosophical or consider their mortality/fragility while laying in bed at night ?

Not so much. I wonder things like:
Who looked at a coffee bean and thought, 'I'll smash that up and then pour hot water on it and drink the water.'?
Who looked at a cow's udder and thought 'I'm thirsty. That'll work.'?
Who looked at roses and thought 'I'll give those to someone to show them I love them.'?

It seems I had the datespan wrong, as my daughter will only be gone about 12 days: one week and two weekends. As such I'll only be alone for one week. Bummer. Still, that's a whole week by myself. I am really looking forward to the sound of silence.

Probably safer for them given the fact that you have feral cats, loose dogs, coyotes and the occasional rabid squirrel there.

Sounds like rural Tennessee as well. We just have a lot more rednecks.

We got them for egg layers. And eventually supper.

I think my Zune days are over. My 120 GB Zune is giving me an error when I plug it in saying that my computer doesn't recognize it anymore. I have an older 30 GB one that is only 2/3 full, but it keeps telling me when I try to load the new Stairway album that I don't have enough room. Maybe it is time to see what else is out there.

Our city council has tried once or twice to make chickens legal within city limits, but too many folks are against it (roosters making noise, etc.) If it were to become legal I would likely get some, for eggs, supper, and pest control. I've heard that houses with roaming chickens have few spiders, etc., getting into the house.
