Silly thread time:
Give me songs that were radio regulars, that you think were the worse songs ever played on radio. Name as many songs as you want - Any radio era you want to choose from, but it HAS to have been played regularly on radio at some point.
An example would be 1986's "I Wanna Be a Cowboy" by Boys Don't Cry. Or how about 1963's "Bird is the Word" by the Trashmen.... absolutely dreadful and annoying.
Now I realize this is subjective, and that someone reading this may absolutely love subjecting their ears (and nerves) to "BIRD BIRD BIRD, BIRD IS THE WORD!!" but just go with me on this and list what you consider the worse songs ever played on radio. Go!

Not all of REM's songs are bad. Just the really repetitive ones that don't say anything.

My wife cannot stand Paradise City or Welcome to the Jungle by GnR. Any time she hears either of those start on the radio she immediately switches it off. I don't know why, but it might have something to do with hearing them too much at pageant rehearsals.
Totally agree about the B-52's Love Shack (or Rock Lobster for that matter).
I was never a big REM fan but I totally love REM's "The One I Love"... but if "Sappy Happy People" comes on the radio I am totally changing it.
For some reason I like that Buggles song.

On the topic of wives, mine hates a song that I particularly dig. She hates Skynyrd's Freebird. Apparently they had a neighbor kid back in the 70s who played it over and over, loud enough for her to hear it from his bedroom window to hers. To this day she hates that song and refuses to listen to it

My wife's brother always wanted that played at his funeral. I had to edit out the guitar solo before the funeral director would agree to use it.
It isn't a song about dying, though. It is a song about leaving your woman and being free as a bird. What is ironic about that is the fact that his wife was holding hands with a guy she moved in with days after the funeral. We aren't talking about holding a hand like you are trying to comfort someone. This was the whole standing side by side, fingers interlocked kind of hand holding. They also stood VERY close together to attempt to conceal their handholding. Perhaps Bobby knew and the song was his way of letting her know he was glad to be free from her.

I always hated Break My Stride by Matthew Wilder. I thought it sounded like music that would play on a carousel. Still hate it today and think it's one of the worst songs ever recorded.

The dead don't get much of a final say on these things. LOL
