So Roxx Records is gearing up to release a new EP from the Fear Not camp. As many of you might have heard Larry Worley won't be singing lead vocals on this one, instead he is playing rhythm guitar and doing back-up vocals. The lead of single has just been released. I have to say I dig it, but it doesn't really sound much like Fear Not to me. Not even just the vocals, but the music is decidedly more modern and groovier. Not at all bad IMO, but I never would have guessed this was Fear Not.

Pretty good but as you said it sounds nothing like them. The vocalist is a completely different style.

Hmm, not bad. Think I'll pick this one up when it's out.

I'm disappointed, wanted that classic Fear Not sound.

Sounds like Kenny Wayne Shepherd on vocals. The verses certainly sound like something Kenny would do.

Ya know I thought the same thing - But Kenny plays guitar, the singer sounds like Kenny's singer Noah Hunt. Here is an example but I thought JWS as well.

I was thinking the vocalist sounded kind of familiar as well. I dig his sound, slightly modern, but not whiny like a lot of modern singers.

Kenny does sing on his more recent albums....much like Yngwie Malmsteen does now. Only Kenny sounds a heck of a lot better than Malmsteen (at least IMHO).

I agree with most everybody. Good music, but a bit too modern to my taste.

I'm kinda diggin' it. Still got that groove, just a bit more modern, maybe a little darker. Curious to hear the rest of the tunes when they drop

I am with Jim on this one. I expected a change in sound when there was the change in vocalist. I still hear the familiar groove. We don't know where they would have gone musically had they continued doing albums 25 years ago. They could have easily morphed into this. We just don't know.
If this were a brand new group, I'd be diggin' this big time. So, I am going to grab this when it releases and give it a chance.

Wish they'd tell us why Worley isn't singing.

If I remember correctly he was quoted somewhere as saying that he just didn't think he could bring the vocals like he did back in the bands early days, so he decided to leave the lead vocals to someone new. He is still doing backing vocals.
If you listen to the last two Liberty N Justice EP's he sings lead on those and his vocal range is a bit diminished and he has a adopted a more laid back vocal style (when compared to the first Fear Not LP).

That is correct. Larry himself said on Facebook as I asked and he told me that his vocal range and quality wasn't what it used to be. He was okay for BGVs, but not for the main vocals.

Total price comes to 13.99 which honestly I think is a bit steep for an EP but oh well.

In this day, that's too high for an E.P. Will hurt sales.

While it is too high for an EP, the cost of printing the CDs will be about the same for 5 songs as it would be for 10. That's why I don't understand doing them. I can understand STUDIO time being more expensive for more songs, but the actual CDs cost about the same regardless of whether you do an EP or full length.
I will still get this, but I am not excited about an EP. Let's hope it leads to a full length later.
