Things kids learn while playing raquetball with me.......
1. I am still the king of raquetball.
2. I don't care if you're only 10 years old, you need to learn to either move out of the way or duck.
3. I will laugh hysterically at you if you go all Rambo and hit the ball as hard as you can, only to catch the bounce directly in your forehead.
4. Cowering in the corner will not save you.
That is all for today.

For the first time in my 43 years I feel like Christianity and Jesus have been watered out of everything except for true churches and believers. It's sad, cuz when I was a kid there were no worries of offending anyone around Christmas or Easter - everyone, even non-believers were caught up in the "spirit" of the holidays.
The words Merry Christmas used to be ALL over everything- now, cuz of a select minority, "happy holidays" is there to please all religions and cultures. Idk, I just think it sucks. Christmas is Christmas, thoughI hate all the commercialism, it's central theme has and always will be celebrating the birth of our Savior.

While I understand (and to a point) agree with you, I wonder about Paul's writing in Romans about one day being more sacred than another. I have no problem celebrating Christmas - in fact, with a 3 year old, it's a ton of fun. But on the other hand, in some ways, it's just another day.
Anyway, I still say Merry Christmas and I work for the government. If my Jewish coworkers can say Happy Hannukah, or people can say Happy Kwaanza, I can say Merry Christmas.

Bro, I totally agree it's just another day - and especially certain it's NOT even close to when He was born (for many years myself, I couldn't stand all these pagan holidays that have been Christianized), but I'm just getting to be an old fart and looking back to the 70s and 80s when the focus was more on the Reason for the Season (as Stryper puts it), and nobody was worried about offending anyone.
These thoughts have just been mulling around since I watched a news segment about how a few politically correct people want to ban yet another Nativity scene amongst all kinds of Santa booths that are displayed every year on a public park. Leave it alone, I say ! I have no problem with them adding displays for Kwanzaa or Hannukah, just leave that manger display alone - it hurts NO ONE.
I guess I'm just at that age where Grandkids are in the near future and I want them to experience the True meaning that was everywhere when I was a kid (not just in elite groups at church or family settings).... again, I'm just ranting, and getting a little sentimental from my memories.

No way, no worries at all my friend ! Like I said, I've just been feeling a little sentimental lately and am tired of seeing small groups with enough power to remove those things I remember as a child. Intellectually I have a lot of problems with most holidays, but sentimentally I wish Jesus was the main focus and santa, elves, and Frosty were all secondary.
Here's food for thought: If all these people believe that Jesus and the Bible were just as myth as Santa Klause was, then what's it hurt anything to let us "fantasy believers" have our "myth" as well ?? It's cuz they KNOW Jesus was/is real and there's a powerful Spirit behind all of this...

I see Easter as the only true Christian Holiday. Christmas is just a fun time of the year but the giving idea behind Christmas should last all year...

Can't tell you how many times I've started an exercise program only to fizzle out after a while. The only thing I've been 100% faithful on for 2 years now has been my diet. Changing your diet changes your life !

Yeah, I'm doing that too. I started right at Thanksgiving - a holiday to eat until you're sick!

Our church is doing a live nativity called Walk Thru Bethlehem this weekend. My part is double: I'm the angel in Joseph's dream (behind the wall) and the innkeeper who sends Mary and Joseph to the stable. It's fun

Very fun indeed, both of my sons have been in plays, and my daughter used to sing in the choir. I'm sure your parents will be very happy to see your performance.

It's been a very strange last two days.
1. We are no longer a foster family. We sent the two little girls that had been living with us for the last 14 months to a new foster family and have decided to retire from fostering. We fostered for almost 3 years and it really wore us out....so the Staybrite family went from 7 down to 5.
2. My wife and oldest son left Thursday morning for Idaho to visit friends and pick up our new puppy.
3. My daughter has her Army Reserve training for a long three day weekend (started Friday).
This only leaves me and my youngest boy (he's 13). We went from 7 people down to 2 (well at least for a few days). It is really strange around here. It is so quiet. And it is really hard to cook for only 2 people when you are used to cooking for 7. Fortunately my wife and oldest boy return this evening.

No they won't… they're in it too! My dad is a tour guide and my mom is an angel who appears to the Bethlehem shepherds. We've been doing it for so long, we know it like the back of our hands.

We have something similar in our area. Annual Walk through Bethlehem takes place in Joshua Tree with all kinds of authentic 1st century stuff... I'm sorry to say I've never made it, but many have told me how amazing it is.
