We are so lucky to only have one snake that can be dangerous.
I'll prefer the caches in the woods.

In the woods, we only have one dangerous snake around here and that is the rattlesnake. Tennessee has a lot of other non-poisonous snakes that a lot of people are afraid of. If it isn't poisonous or big enough to make a meal off of me, I ain't skeert!

There aren't a whole lot of poisonus snakes here in the U.S. are there. The only four I can think of are the rattlesnake, water moccasin (cotton mouth), copper head, and the coral snake. And fortunately you generally can't find all four in any one location.

We have 3 of those four here in Tennessee. I have never seen a coral snake to know what it looks like.

I now have 414 finds and may go after 4 more tomorrow afternoon. I still am shooting for 500 finds by Jan. 8, 2011--my one year anniversary. I think I can do this!

The most dangerous snake we have is a viper.

I believe coral snakes are much more common in the south-western u.s.
They are supposed to be the "most deadliest" of our poisonus snakes.

They are the ones with the red, yellow, and black stripes.

So when you see things like that you don't have to think it are caches.
I can't wait to start geo caching.
I only hope never to find a frog-chace.

Actually, I have seen things like fake birds, fake spiders, and even a fake snake for caches. I know you can buy fake lizards and turles as cache containers, so it would not surprise me to find a frog cache.

Besides the typical rattlesnake, we have what's called the Mojave Green out here (just another breed of rattlesnake).
This sucker's sent a LOT of people to Sean Bush at Loma Linda. If you ever watch TLC you've seen those ER shows where someone was bit and went to Loma Linda Hospital to see that cool guy with his long pony-tail who's an expert in poisonous sciences.
He's saved a lot of lives of ppl bitten by this snake:

Tried to start today.
I was a bit confused to figure out there are two caches to find.
One with only a GPS and one you have to answer questions.
I will figure out this week more so we can start next weekend.
Now, I really thought you onely had one kind of caches, the ones you have to find with your GPS and not answering questions to find caches.

Actually, the ones you have to answer questions about are called Puzzle Caches. There are traditional caches, puzzle caches, multi-staged caches, event caches, and virtual caches. So, each one is different. Traditional caches are the most common. The event caches are cool because you can go to an event and meet other geocachers and learn a lot about the sport from others. I haven't found many puzzle caches just because they can be a little difficult.

That's what Aart told me too, that the puzzle caches are a little difficult.
This week, I'll hope to find some traditional caches.
Those are the caches where you only need your GPS?

Now, I go for it and start to cache!!!
Caches here I come.

The puzzle caches you will need the GPS and do some math or problem solving.

Regular or Micro (very small) caches will only need a GPS, but you might want to write down the clues and maybe read through the logs that people have made about each cache just to get some additional hints. Also, to make this easier, only go after caches with a 1 or 2 difficulty level at first.

The GPS we have.
Only, in math I'm very bad.Mad
So I think I'll go for the traditional caches first.
Now I have to figure out how to start.

Load the caches into your GPS, write down the important stuff (like hints or coordinates in case you forgot to actually load the cache), and head out. Make sure you take a pen and some small stuff to swap.

NOW GET GOING!!! lol!

Inside a regular geocache will be little prizes if you will. We call it swag. if there is something inside of the cache that you want, you may trade it for an item you own of about equal value. Smaller caches called micros will only have a small scroll inside. You just sign your user name on it to prove you found it. The larger caches have notebooks usually to sign inside as well. If you don't sign the log (notebook or scroll), then you did not officially find the cache.

Yeppers the peppers I've found my first cache today.
It was a very small one with a paper inside where you have to write the time you have found the cache and tell something about a watermill very close to the cache.
This one was very simple.
Will post pictures tomorrow.

Now, we are enthusiast and will find more caches.

Do we have to go to the geocache website to tell now we have found this cach?

You do go to the www.geocaching.com website and log this cache that you found it! Welcome to geocaching! You are now considered a neocacher. Once you hit 100 finds, you are considered a geocacher. Log each find you have, and even log it when you don't find one. Many times, a cache owner will give you additional clues if you can't find something. Also, it may tell them that their cache is missing and needs to be attended to.

What you found is called a micro. Micros only have logs inside to sign. You sign your nickname that you chose at the geocaching website. A full sized cache will have small items inside that you can trade for if you want.

Again, welcome to geocaching!

I went out and found two today. Groundspeak, the company that runs the geocaching website, is shooting to break the record of how many cachers log a find today on 10-10-10. The previous record was over 56,000 and was set in April of this year. They want to get as many cachers to log a find today as possible. If you log yours, you will be part of that world record! sabidoo and I both will be part of that record!
