At first, I didn't want the more pop-sided Skillet. However, after several albums and comparing them to earlier works, Skillet really has not drifted too far from their roots. In truth, it seems like their self-titled debut and "Collide" were the flukes. Everything else uses a lot of techno styled keyboards to fatten up their sound but still give them enough pop sensibilities for moms to approve but kids still like them.
With the new album, that is exactly what you get. They rock hard on some songs. They take it down to the keys on the slow songs. They intertwine the sounds of keyboard laden and rockers in others. This is Skillet doing what Skillet seems to do best: rock while playing it safe.
That isn't a bad thing, though. If you are a fan of their albums since "Comatose", then you will most likely love this, too. I do!

I wasn't going to buy the CD, but after hearing this...
... I thought I'd support the band, even though I wasn't too bothered in buying the CD.
Turns out I shouldn't have worried about it being anything other than great! Absolutely love the songs, and have been rocking to this (and Disciple) over the past week.
