What's everyone's opinion of Skillet. Are they officially labeled as Alternative Rock. I use to listen to them regularly waaay back when they first came out. Then about a year later I just lost interest. Well this week I've rediscovered them. Found out about a song they made called My Religion.
I know like Michael with Stryper Cooper I guess has mentioned that they are a rock band made up of Christains. I know they are on a secular label. I know they don't use the name Jesus all that much but they know who they are singing too and about

I like their last three records alright. I think they could be better with a more talented vocalist. But I'm not a major fan of the style so I tend to nit-pick more than I probably should.

I think they're great. Apart from the vague lyrics I love their recent stuff.

I like Skillet. For me their vocalist is cool.

I like what Skillet is doing overall. I thought the last album was a bit too ballad heavy, though. I have all of their albums except for the worship disc that their early label forced them to do.

Ten years ago I was a huge Panhead. After Lori Peters left the band, they seemed to fall into this commercial formula that has made everything sound the same for the last three albums. They sound good, but Rise Skillet isn't even close to Collide Skillet, imo.
As far as their lyrics go, they're not as bold as some, but I've seen them twice and John can be very bold on stage.

I knew John Cooper when he was in Seraph back in the early 90s. We did gigs with them in Memphis & we got to know their hearts. He is a great guy. My favorite stuff from them is the self titled debut, Collide & everything after that. I wish they had lyrics that were as bold as their early stuff, but overall I really dig them. I'm so proud John has had so much success.

I will have to second that! Lori was a monster drummer! Jen is solid and sings well, but her drumming just doesn't seem to be on the same energy level is Lori's was.
When they had Lori, John's wife did the female vocals. I wonder why the change there?

I have seen them in concert three times, once as a true concert, and twice as final acts for one of the stages at Christian music festivals. John, at least, is very outspoken about his faith, even during the concert. This is Winterjam, 2015:
As for their genre... dunno. To me they are simply hard rock.

I like'm.... I've seen them live---very good band.
I don't know why... but I've never "loved" them... but I would call them "heavy ______________ music." not sure about all of the sub categories these days---can't keep up with it
