Most if us here like hard rock and various types of metal. While some metalheads are diverse with their tastes, I know some don't venture far from their core musical likes.
What about you? How diverse are your listening tastes?

Mostly metal and hard rock for me. I do have some bands here and there in different genres that I dig: pop, blues, blues-based rock etc. (but not rap, hip hop, R&B or country).

I prefer Hard Rock/Metal and prefer the bluesy/grooving stuff over pounding in the ground. As I've gotten older I find that I appreciate more styles of music even if I don't listen to them much. Take Classical for instance. Classical music is the bomb. The amount of parts and harmonies and rhythms and, and, and is just mindblowingly amazing. But I can't listen to much of it. I respect Jazz musicians but really dislike most of what I've heard.

I'm all over the place...I like most rock/metal subgenres, but avoid stuff that is sloppy, intentional or otherwise. I love jazz, from 30s and 40s big band stuff up to modern smooth jazz. I like praise and worship music that is a bit adventurous, leaving room for musicians to worship as well as the singers. Not a fan of country or rap, with the exception of some rap/rock hybrid bands.

Wow, it's a very long time ago we had a poll here.

Core musical likes? I'm not even sure what those are any more. I'm like a musical sponge I guess. I'm not a big opera fan, but every once in a while I'll put something operatic on (usually Mozart's Don Giovanni or something Wagner). Right now I'm really into big, epic, symphonic things like film scores and the newest Evanescence album (the live show is AMAZING!!!!!!). I've also got this prog metal album I'm supposed to be reviewing that I'm enjoying a lot. Who knows, next week it might be something like The Civil Wars or Joni Mitchell. Of course it might be Public Enemy or Ice-T too. Or show tunes. Or 80s new wave. I did a week of Hank Williams a couple months back.

Yeah, you know. Metalcore, post-modern metalcore, straight-edge hardcore, tough-guy metalcore, industrial grindcore, etc.

I'm sort of in between 2 and 3. I listen to mainly rock and metal, but I also love lots of other styles.
(Apart from R'n'B, which as stated many times previously, is the devils music)

Now I never expected anyone here to be in to 30s jazz. I love 30s jazz. Check out my soundcloud, bassdude. I've got a couple 30s jazz tunes posted there.
I've always been a rock/metal girl at the core, but my tastes are pretty varied. I'll listen to a pop tune next to a rap tune next to Mendelssohn's Fingals Cave next to T-Bone Walker (blues guitarist) next to Demon Hunter. As long as there's talent and taste, I'm on it. Don't put me in a box!

I have learned that I am mostly in the box. I like hard rock, metal (but not the more extreme styles), rock, blues, and a little pop. I can't stand country, bluegrass, most rap, most pop, classical, reggae, polka (despite our long-standing jokes about that), most jazz, etc. I don't have any of these styles I listed in my collection that I own or even listen to. I seem to be very closed minded musically--and that is okay with me!!!

I'll check it out....I used to play upright bass in jazz band in high school and college, we did a lot of Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, stuff like that, all the way up to Maynard Ferguson and Thelonius Monk. I'm sure I'll buy an upright at some point in the future, but I do sit in with some jazz guys on fretless sometimes for a riverboat dinner cruise in my home town.

I'm listening to Tina Turner today, I love her pop rock years in the 80's and 90's.

Thelonius Monk is my piano hero. The guy was legend. If you love upright bass, check out the antics of nz bass player, Geoff Fitzpatrick. Skip to the 3:00 minute mark and you'll see him playing the bass like a guitar and upside down...among other things. Guys hilarious....

Pretty much anything except rap and country. Don't like either but would rather hear rap than country. Mostly listen to classic rock or metal. But also enjoy modern rockabilly (there are several bands out there with an old sound).
And I like stuff like Les Baxter, Martin Denny and Esquivel.

Love Stevie Wonder and Elton John, but mostly their work from the 70's, which could be considered hard rock, or at least rock.

Ha! Baxter. It's like music from a 60s flick. Have you listened to anything by Yma Sumac? Amazing voice...and that note at 2:00! Wow!

I tend to stay in the metal wheel house most of the time. would like to venture out more but I'm not sure where to look...

I don't like rap at all but there is something about this song that I love. Haunting keyboard sound I guess but this is a cool song.

We like both kinds: Country AND Western.
