| Anyone ever played Saskatoon volleyball? It's a 3-team thing where one team is off and serves from behind one of the two back lines, while the other two teams play it out. If the team closer to the serving team loses the round, these two change places, while if the farther team loses, they go back to service, and the closer team moves away, and the serving team replaces the closer team. It may sound confusing at first, but it's awfully fun! | |

| From the cool coincidences files: I've seen that "Xian" has become a kind of hip shorthand for Christian (you know, the whole Xi=Greek letter that begins "Christ" thing). Well, in doing some research on musical instruments in mythology for an article I'm writing I discovered that the word that translates "xian" in Chinese is used in Taoism to refer to ... an immortal or transcendent person or a saint. | It's just a brief overview, 1400 words. So far I have Apollo's lyre, Pan's pipes, Athena's aulos, Orpheus' lyre, some Chinese stuff, the Aztec "death whistle", Bragi's harp. Since I'm treating mythology broadly, I thought about bringing in the trumpets of Revelation. I'm also briefly mentioning the whole set of myths where the devil plays the fiddle. | |
