Ok, the reason I yawned was NOT cuz of the song... the song rips !!! I yawned at yet another un-imaginative video. I dig seeing the boys rockin' out, but again, where's the creativity ?
Let me explain why I'm so hard on judging these vids - My wife watched the country music channel last night (while I was reading). They had an hour long show of TAYLOR SWIFT videos, hosted by Taylor herself. Why do I bring this up ? Cuz despite Swift not exactly being a favorite of mine, I was totally into her videos - WHY? Cuz they were all concept videos. Small stories, mini-movies, poetry in motion, INTERESTING. This is not a Stryper VS Swift thing, it's a comparison of video creativity - yes, Taylor has more money than the Sweets or Bloodgood or much of Christian metal bands combined, but what I noticed in the Taylor videos was not the amount of money put into her vids, but rather clever writing, the talent of keeping your attention by telling a story and again, making a video interesting. Anyone can do what Stryper or Bloodgood is doing in these videos - what they do best: rockin'... but as they write great songs and great lyrics, why can't they write a great video ? With computer technology today, Stryper could have made this video amazingly cool. They could've taken a simple concept like the video of Peace Sells from 1986 and splice video footage close together, footage of different places they've been or some old and new footage sliced together - throw in some slow motion drumming.... anyone seeing my point ? I can do green-screen (or blue-screen) in my own house ! They could throw the band in front of some cool footage behind them. If I can do this kind of computer magic as an amateur with no budget at all.. and make it look cool as many YouTubers have done - why can't they ? Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now...
Again, love Stryper, loving the new album... disappointed with the videos. Personal opinion that I'm sure others do not share with me.

You made the point though. She has paid people who design her videos and have the TIME to do it. Yeah, they could do what you suggest but it is more time.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion G/F..but I am also entitled to tie you up to a horse and drag you through the burning dessert until you repent and correct your erroneous thinking
Seriously, I couldn't disagree with you more.
I love the video.

I thought the song was great and the video too. I understand what G/F is saying, but I guess time constraints and money constraints do have a part to play.

I actually liked this video considerably more than the last one. (I really dig the song too). But as I said before, I don't really like music videos, and pretty much always click on them just to hear the music.

Though I'd love to be dragged through a dessert, I think the frustrated comment was meant to be more harsh - and since I live in the desert, I can see how being dragged through this desert would be most horrible. Probably as horrible as another BORING video of band members just playing their instruments onscreen.

I understand the concept of paying people to design videos, but I guarantee for the same amount of cash they shelled out for yet another "band playing their instruments" video, they could've created something much more stunning and exciting. The last statement may be the best point anyone's made so far. TIME. I understand as someone who's tinkered with video editing and design, that it is time consuming.... but not expensive.
Now to sum it all up. I love my CHM family here and didn't post this to create waves*, but rather to make a point. #1 The music is NOT in question here, the music is EXCELLENT and I can't wait for my copy to arrive. #2 Give me, a nobody, 3 days and I could film, splice and create a video with sub-par inexpensive software that would be crazy cool. Using just clips of the band like in the original video, I could create some crazy effects and transitions that would be more appealing to the eye and wow the viewer. If I can do that (a nobody), then surely someone in the band or a family member/friend could knock out something that people would talk about. Something that would make the rounds on the internet due to the cool effects/ideas.
Again, these are my own opinions about the videos coming out lately, NOT opinions about the overall music.
* I often ask myself while I'm posting a critique "why am I doing this ? Do I like to set myself up ?" ** I also think the fact that I'm an artist and appreciate art is one of my biggest problems in this area as well. I desire to see creativity and like in a previous post I made, there is a famine of creativity in art and video.

You know..THAT is why I hate doing this on my phone. Auto correct for some reason likes that better, you would think I would start catching it by now.
Start looking at how many posts of mine here and on Facebook say "edited"...I am constantly correcting auto correct..lol It corrects what I DON'T want corrected and misses what I DO want corrected.

Don't tempt me. I might just take you up on that! I am wanting to do a concept video for the title track "Hostile To The Gospel" showing pictures and video (if I can find it) of worldwide persecution of Christians. I would want to be in the video very little or not at all. I think I'd like it to be a concept/lyric video. Up to the challenge?

It would be an honor. But like I said "Give me 3 days.." - In other words, I don't have 3 days free - I'm talking about the guys who did the Stryper video, surely it took more than 3 full days to do that video. And my point was, give me (ONE person) 3 full days and my simple software, and I could create some very cool stuff... so why can't they ?
I'm currently finishing up the work on the Heaven's Metal magazine editing. When I can get the time in my personal life to finish that project, I'll be free again. But it would take me a while to put together a video as I don't have 3 full days free. I'd have to work on it like I'm doing the HM project - a couple hours here and there when I get a few moments to myself.
As far as doing a video for MO1 - OMG, that would be a total honor that I would do for free. I have to be careful to accept another project though as my wife has been REALLY patient with me working on HM magazine for the last YEAR.
But keep me in mind. I like your ideas, and love the song... I could do some great stuff with that.

Concept videos are great -- if the person is NOT a musician. Stryper are musicians so I like to see them play. Same with every other rock or metal band. I want to see them show what they have not tell a story with actors and actresses. If I wanted that I would watch Michael Jackson videos because he was the best at concept videos. And he isn't a musician. He's an artist and not in a band. Neither is Taylor Swift. Comparing her videos to a Stryper video is apples to oranges. I like the new vid and NMHTP. Since I prob won't see them live this is the only way I will get to see them perform.

I'm understanding your point. Unfortunately Taylors vids happened to be the latest videos I watched last night.. therefore the comparison was weak. However, if I were to carry my point further (which I'm rather getting weary of arguing my pointless point), I could easily show 100s of METAL concept videos, secular and Christian that are incredible tiny stories that are interesting and entertaining. Compare that to multitudes of cookie cutter "bands playing their instruments" videos... and I know what I'd rather watch.
I do like the counter-point though: Having never seen a band in concert, it's pretty cool to watch a video that showcases a band's talents in concert. I like that. In fact, last night we watched the Taylor Swift video for "RED" that showed clips from multiple concerts... I liked it. Go ahead. Take my Metal Card away.

And just to make this friendly debate go on a little further...
the one bad thing about concept videos is that they don't hold up very well to repeated viewing.... videos of the band playing (whether on stage or on a set) hold up much much better

I can only go by the people I know though...maybe as a whole I am wrong.
I just know that everyone in my circle likes the concept videos for the first viewing, but playing on a regular basis they get annoying.

I have to agree that even the coolest concept video can become boring over and over (just as a cool movie could get over-played). Good point. Ok, but how about my other example (sorry my examples aren't well thought out or very good) Peace Sells ?
Here we have a band playing their instruments. Cool. But to make it a video worth watching over and over, they clipped in footage on every other frame in segments, they did the slo-mo on the drummer, then Mustaine does a cool slo-mo turn with his gee-tar... see where I'm going here ? It's a video of just the band doing their thing, but the way it was edited is interesting - even after all these years, the strobe effect looks pretty cool despite the old low budget filming. They even throw in some dude falling down the stairs randomly - why ? we don't know... but it was entertaining ! So on a serious note - what about a compromise ? Mixing the "band playing" with a "semi-conceptual" idea ?
