Stryper has been a band that has frusterated me many times since I first started listening to them in 93. I have respect for them musically. I think they are very gifted musicians. I've always considered them to be somewhat weak lyrically and very strong musically. I was disaapointed in the direction Michael took with the Reborn cd and with the Covering cd.

Around the time they were working on the covering cd michael made some posts on one of the stryper forums discussing why he decided to do a cd of cover tunes. He explained that he wanted to do the cd to show people how talented they were musically. I said to myself, why do you have to do a cover album to showcase how talented you all are by doing secular songs. People already know how talented you all are just by doing what you have been doing for the 30 years. I thought Michael was getting prideful. It sounded to me that they were more concerned about worldly influence and being rock stars on stage then by being artists for God....

I thought Murder By Pride was their best work since THWTD. I read somewhere cant remember where that Michael wanted to do a cd of remakes of songs of the early cds. That might be interesting. He also said that they have material for cd of all new original work also..Looking forward to hearing more about that also...

I really don't see a problem with any of Stryper's catalog. They are talented at what they do--even when they tried to be a bit more alternative with "Reborn". I still think that if they were to overdub lead guitar solos on all the songs that the record would come off with the same vibe as "Murder By Pride". The cover album isn't my favorite, but it is good.

Reborn was already written and meant to be another Michael Sweet solo disc before Stryper got back together. They simply went ahead and recorded it as Stryper

One of the other reasons they did the covers disc was to go ahead and finish off their contract with Big 3 records. Afterwards that opened up the possibility to move to a better record company.

A reason for "remakeing" a bunch of the older songs is to free them up so the guys can use them for various reasons. They had been wanting to get the back catalog from Hollywood records but Hollywood wants too much money.

My two favorite albums by them are Against The Law and The Covering. But I love cover albums/songs to begin with and musically ATL was their finest.
