For the Magellan, you can get it new from Amazon.com for $129.99. There will be no shipping costs or tax for a purchase of that size. I would check Amazon to see what that would cost in Canadian money.

Are you referring to this one? ($483CAD)
http://www.amazon.ca/Magellan-610-eXplorist-Canada-Handheld/dp/B004Q3QXKS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308923271&sr=1-1-catcorr

I may have to order it from the U.S. Amazon if it's that expensive.

That's the more expensive cousin to the one I am talking about. Try this one instead:

Thanks for the link. I've thought of another use for the GPS: tracking down rare birds. I could find some bird and tag the location, so that other birdwatchers could find the area too.

The only obstacle is clearing it by Mom and Dad.

The wifey and I went to a Middle TN Geocachers Club event today and grabbed 2 more caches in the park where it was held.

I picked up a small cache on the way to Wonderland at a gas station. I looked mighty suspicious to the muggles on the bus! Laughing

Four finds today, now I'm at 25: one quarter of the way to 100! Very Happy

(Geocaching is a good way for me to get on my bike. I want to get my hundred before the end of the year!)

You can do it. I thought that it would take FOREVER to get 100. Then, I thought 250. Then 500. By then, I realized that I would eventually find 1000 and beyond.

I've only done one earthcache, and I just don't like them. I don't know geology, so I don't load earthcaches anymore.

I have no idea about geology too.
Maybe we can find something on the internet to answer the question, if not than 2 earth caches is enough.

Geology is pretty cool. We looked a bit at geology during our geography class.

The app I have for the iPhone only looks up traditional caches, not multis/unknowns/earths.

Do you actually have an account at www.geocaching.com? If they are not premium caches (for paid members), then you should be able to see all forms of hides.

I went out yesterday afternoon and grabbed a cache. I split FTF with a man that was visiting from Orlando. He saw this come up on his phone as he was leaving Orlando. We found it together and gave are splitting FTF rights.

Alldat - I haven't bought the $10 full app, because I'm gonna use that $10 toward a full GPS instead. Right now, I'm using the free "intro" app that only shows traditionals.

I'm not talking about apps, dude. Do you have a membership at www.geocaching.com? You can see more caches by having a membership and even more if you have the full paid membership (called premium).

Alldatndensum: I do have a free membership at Geocaching.com (pembroke-dbf). I think I used your name as referral.

The free Intro app doesn't have any options for logging into an account.

I picked one up after doing the paper route. I'm at 26 now.

I might go somewhere else tonight, with my dad. At one location, there's reportedly a very rare dragonfly, and near that cache there are some more (4 or 5) caches.

EDIT: Here's the caches I want to grab.

I finished the day with one more cache. I DNF a second one. Those were two of the caches I mentioned two posts above. That makes 14 for one day!

Incidentally, we found the rare dragonflies. Google for "broad-tailed shadowdragon" and you'll see how rare it is. We also sighted an owl.

I owe Chris all that, and then some! lol!

You don't owe me anything, dude. I just started sharing about my hobby that I started doing last year. A few of you picked it up. What you do with it is your baby now. Luckily, you've learned quickly that, even though we're all hunting caches, the game is really your own. You can do this for exercise, to see cool new places, to see geology or birds, etc. You can shoot for high numbers or just for meaningful caches. You are in competition with no one, either.

We grabbed a few caches in Gatlinburg, TN and a few along I-40 on the way home yesterday. I ended up with 14 for the weekend bringing me to 1211.

One thing also about the free app, it doesn't download new caches from geocaching.com - at least I don't think it does. I tried finding some newer hides and they did not show up.
