With 4" to 6" of snow in our town the entire county has declared a snow day (up to 14" in some low-land areas, over 32" in the mountains). Got it all last night. So I am staying home from work today (might try to do a little work from home). This is more snow that we usually see in any one day on the typical year.

I love the snow... but just for a day or 2. Every 2 to 3 years we get a nice blanket of about a half foot of snow. Then a zillion accidents cuz Californians have no idea how to drive in snow.

Snow is fun and so cool. But ... I don't think this winter will bring us snow.

Nobody here knows how to drive in the snow either, our 2-county area had reported something like 80+ accidents in an 8 hour period since the snow started....and that's with most people just staying at home.

Oh bummer, no snow. That doesn't sound like fun at all.

4" to 6" is more snow than my town sees in an entire winter!

Not to many snow days here in Texas. We are going to be in the 70s over the next few days. We do have lots of sand and dirt storms though. The wind blows here everyday...sometimes 40 to 70 miles an hour. This is one of them. This is sand and dirt..not clouds.

Wow! I'll take the snow over that anyday.
We have the occasional dust-devil - like a miniature tornado. Biggest one we had lifted a plastic trash bin so high in the air, it looked like a toy.

We seldom see that much snow here in a year either.

that's my wife's exact response. She grew up in Connecticut and New Hampshire and had to shovel snow all winter long.

I had TWO snow days, yesterday and the day before. They came at a bad time, as I have exams this week and the next (one today, one tomorrow, one Monday and one Tuesday).
The first day was that of the snowfall, and we got about a foot of snow (a little less). I had to shovel the snow on our steps, and in a trilogy:
So they cancelled the buses that day. Who can blame 'em?
The next day, there was no snowfall but the roads were very slippery. They cancelled the buses again, though it was a little unmotivated. I chose to go to school and study, and picked up some friends on the way.
So yeah.

At least it's consistently cold or consistently warm where you guys are. Here in Kentucky, the weather is more inconsistent than a pregnant lady's mood. Just this past week, there was a day it was 62 degrees throughout the day (I actually went out and played some basketball), 20 degrees that night, and then snowed the next day (not really much accumulation though). I don't really care if it's cold and I don't really care if it's hot, as long as it's consistent.

So our snow day was followed by a freezing rain day that put a 1/2 to 1-inch layer of ice on everything. Busted branches off of thousands of trees, snapped power lines and distrupted power to almost 300,000 people (us included). We were without power for about 36 hours (I know you all missed me). Got very cold for a while but our power finally came back on last night at 7:30. Just past midnight we had a severe wind storm and lost power again (but just for a few minutes this time). Sadly we lost several beautiful old maple trees in our town's main park. A few people (around Western Washington) were killed by falling tree limbs.

Wow- those pictures remind me of one of the last winters I spent in Portland (2004) when we got hit by the storm of the century: Close to a foot of snow with freezing rain on top of that!
But it went away in 3-4 days and within a week things were back to normal weather wise.

That's pretty much the way it's going here. The snow is almost gone today. Just some slush and a few big piles where it was plowed up.

Wow! We just had a MAJOR wind/dirt storm. Visibility was down to a few feet and the wind was sustained at 48 and gusting near 70 with major down drafts. This was one of the worst we have had in a long time.

Those dust storms must play havoc with the paint job on your cars and homes. I think I'm with Guilty/Forgiven I would much rather have the snow.

I wish we'd finally get a couple of snows. It's hard to say we've even had winter.

Today it's the first day in two weeks it's not freezing. For two weeks it has frozen here very hard. -2,2 F. Friday one week ago it started to snow and we've gotten lots of snow. Now the snow is melting away and it's not so cold anymore.
