Is it me or does Matt Smith sound like Getty Lee of Rush

I can't say that I ever made that comparison. I will say that I wasn't terribly impressed with his vocals on the first album. I mean they weren't awful, but I just didn't think they were that great. He has improved with the next two albums.

^Agreed. The first album is a fantastic album overall though. His vocals have improved quite a bit. Great band and I am super stoked for the upcoming album!

I loved his voice on the third album ATWB...love that album..one of my all time favorites.
I also have the first two but really can't stand them.

Really? I think everything sounds great (instruments, vocals, production...) but none of the songs on ATWB really do it for me. They're all good... just not great IMO. Whereas the first two albums have multiple songs that I absolutely love.
It always makes me happy when a band doesn't have that one unanimously "best" album because it means they're varied and competent enough to convey different emotions through different songs that speak to different people differently!

Surprised me too..lol..especially as much as I loved ATWB.
Maybe I will go back and give those first two another listen.
I think my biggest issue, even with ATWB, is that the guitar work sounds very...I don't know what word to use...electronic maybe? The guitar sound tends to sound very "digital" to me.

Gotcha. I think I'm the odd one out though; seems most folks prefer ATWB. I just couldn't connect to it emotionally as I could with the others.
Some of my favorites from the first two are Absolution Day, Martyr, and The Healing Hand. (And dang, read the lyrics to The Healing Hand - powerful stuff IMO.)

I would probably say I like them all almost equally. I have at least 3 favorite songs from each album and could listen to them all day long. If I had to pick a single favorite it would have to be "Laying the Demon to Rest", from Mirror of Shouls.

+1. And I regularly do listen to all 3 all day long - sometimes on shuffle, sometimes not. Still listening to the original debut as well even though I've had the remake since Christmas. I haven't even opened yet - need to do that some day since the mastering was the biggest weakness. I could live with the drum machine though I'm sure it sounds much better with Shawn.
To the OP, certainly not old Geddy. I haven't heard any of the new Rush stuff, but their styles are still different to my ears at least.

Great.....another thread about this band that I am sure to get some hate over. I just don't get the hype. I'd rather listen to Skillet.

D'oh! How could I have forgotten Laying The Demon To Rest??? Such a great song!
And to the rest of you Theocratics (that's a Theocracy heretic)...

It is okay, Kerrick. I like them slightly more than I do Iron Maiden.

Is Iron Maiden a new band? I heard it was Michael Sweet's side project but it isn't a Christian band, per se...

I thought it was a bunch of girls trying to be a rock band. I mean, with a name like Iron MAIDEN, it has to be all females, right?

So nice, rich71 said it thrice!
I haven't listened to Theocracy in a while, so inspired by this thread I made a CD of my favorite Theocracy tunes for a cruise around town the other day. Oh yeah! I completely remember why I love this band!

Oh, I was being sarcastic. On this board, we are pretty open about what we do and don't like and most everyone seems okay with that. On the CMR, however, I did not get such nice replies or PMs about not liking Theocracy. To be honest, after the way people act towards you if you don't like them, I probably wouldn't give them even another looksey.
As far as the rest of this thread, I think it just veered off course for the extreme silliness. That's what we do best.
