Tonight I'm taking Lisa to see REO SPEEDWAGON at the casino. It starts at 9pm... so I'm guessing we won't be home and in bed until at least 2AM. Then I gotta get up mid morning, get ready and go to Pomona for the FACEDOWN FEST at the Glasshouse. They're gonna have 10 bands from 3pm to whenever they finish that night.... I totally love REO, but am not a huge fan of screaming/growling vox that most of Facedown artists have. I'm mainly going to hang out with my high school buddy (who DOES love that vocal style). That said, I don't "hate" that music, I'm just not a fan. As every old person ahead of our generations always say: "all the songs sound the same"
So Ive got my medicines, my wheelchair, and a will to have fun... so I'm ready !
My wife is really spoiling me lately - she's getting tickets for us to see THE STEVE MILLER BAND end of July. I can't wait !!

I have seen REO 5 or 6 times, however I haven't seen them live since 1995 (and it is the line-up that is touring now). They put on a great show. The last time I saw them in Knoxville (95) they played "Golden Country". They put on a really good show but I hear lately Kevin's voice is hit or miss. I think if you're a fan of REO you will enjoy it but his voice cracks on "Can't Fight This Feeling".

You are a better friend than I am, I don't think anything could get me to go to a Screamo-fest.

Ok... so I'm half way through the Facedown Fest (6 bands in already) and I gotta say, I'm having fun ! No.. I don't care for the screamo stuff, but the shredding is excellent! 2 bands were awful, 2 were pretty good (too bad the vox were screamo), and 2 I actually LIKED !! Hope For The Dying was amazing !! The 2 guitarists could shred with the best of them. Matter of fact, they did a cover of Iron Maiden's The Trooper- very well done ! The band I'm digging a lot is "Everything In Slow Motion" as they have hardly any screaming and sound more like a hardcore Switchfoot.
I'm not a convert to this style of music, but I gotta say, this is a lot of fun !

I cant imagine hearing The Trooper scream-o style.... But what actually is screamo style? Is it yelling? Growling? Because, at least to me, scream-o or screaming would be like Rob Halford, Josh Kramer or Bruce Dickenson. Is Jim Gilette screamo?

@mikeinfla I believe this is one of the bands at the festival, and what I think of when people refer to screamo

ugh... wrote up an entire run down of the entire night and each band... had all kinds of comments about each band, the highs, the lows.. etc... then just as I'm ready to hit the SEND button, something froze and I lost all of it. So, needless to say, I ain't gonna retype it all.
Just wanna say, yep Ishmael81, xDEATHSTARx was pretty amazing ! Must've been like 20 people on the stage - VERY entertaining.
Also, Hope For The Dying did a killer cover of Maiden's "The Trooper" - caught it all on my Cell. I like the band's work the most, the vocalist was ok... nothing to write home about though.

How was REO? (BTW, the board has done that to me before too. Type out a long message, hit send and then it is gone. Sometimes if I hit the back button my message reappears and I copy everything to be safe then hit send again).

man, so frustrating !
REO was fantastic ! For a 63 year old, he's doing excellent ! Solid energy for an hour and 1/2, carries his voice the whole time, only on the high notes does he miss... you can hear an old man in his vox now. The bassist (Bruce Hall) does vox on 2 songs... he's 62... it's cool that he gives Kevin's chords a break, but Bruce can't carry a note. He loves singing, you can see it, but he just ain't got it. Kevin was great though. They all sounded so good when playing the classics. The crowd was 90% 40s, 50s and 60s and just a few young'uns.
