I like it they do their weddingday on their way. Not what others expect they do.

Someone please tell Pandora that Third Day does NOT belong on a Stryper channel!!! For crying out loud, how many times do I have to indicate "don't like" before you will quit playing them!?
(btw, I like Third Day, just not on a Stryper channel!)

Someone tell Third Day to return to their SOUTHERN ROCK roots instead of putting out another unnecessary worship album!!!!

-40… yep, still winter in Canada. I don't have to specify -40°C or -40°F, because at that point, they are one and the same.

We have nearly an inch of ice here. Traffic is almost non-existant. Even the salt trucks are wrecking. Sure, southerners can't drive in the snow like northerners can, but it because we don't get to practice. Besides, I doubt many people truly are great drivers on ice.

I don't care how skilled a driver you are...nobody can drive well on ice.

And any rallye driver. And I would also disagree… it just takes a lot of dosage of the parking brake, a lot of correction, a lot of concentration, and a reasonable speed.

Practice is something we don't get a lot of. We typically have 7-8 snow days figured into a school year and we rarely use them. With what we have now plus the constant temperature, I bet we'll be slipping on ice all week but not at school.
I don't mind not going to school as I get paid to stay away!!! Those darn government jobs!

So you are going to compare professional drivers on a track with everyday idiots trying to drive their regular cars on ice (with a myriad of obstacles). I think you guys missed my point. Sliding a two wheeled motorcycle around an icy oval track isn't the same as trying to navigate a Ford Explorer around a car strewn suburban street.

I think presidents day and MLK day are both stupid holidays.... I can't believe they let kids out of school for both of them. Seems to me that kids get way more time off for holidays than we did when I was a kid..

Ha, at college we wouldn't get President's Day off but would get Cesar Chavez day. That pissed a lot of folks off... As much as I enjoy any day off I can get, I'm with you Savage. (I didn't get yesterday off of work unfortunately.)

@Staybrite
You said, "I don't care how skilled a driver you are...nobody can drive well on ice," so I showed you skilled drivers driving well on ice. I didn't miss your point, but you surely missed mine.
Driving on ice is more common sense than skill:
Drive slow
Never be in a hurry
Look far enough ahead to be able to react
Don't overreact
Know your route; know what streets tend to be icy, etc., and stay away from them.
Don't drive on bald tires
Don't be over confident. Remember that 4x4's get good traction for going, but not for stopping
The only "skill" that typically requires practice is knowing what to do if you start sliding, such as ...
If you are beginning to slide while turning a corner, don't brake --- throttle. A front- or four-wheel drive can be pulled from a slow skid with careful throttling.
If sliding while turning know when to give up and continue straight. No turn is so important that you can't come back to it (unless you're drive towards a cliff ... then you're just hosed! )
If sliding while trying to stop, don't pump your brakes; let the ABS do it's job. Unless you have a vehicle so old that it doesn't have ABS, then pump them fast.
If sliding toward someone turn your vehicle towards the curb, but not so fast that you make your tail end whip around. Bumper to bumper crashes do much less damage then bumper to body.
If you start to slide with no-one in front of you and your tail end is whipping, turn your wheels in the same direction your back end is trying to go.
Know when to just hold on and pray.
These aren't things any driving class can teach; you just gotta experience them. I have observed that most of the people in ice-related accidents are either driving like idiots (too fast, not slowing down soon enough for stop lights, etc.) or are the victims of people driving like idiots. Sadly, there is no way to avoid the latter besides just staying home.

I only get like 4 or 5 holidays from work a year. Now it seems like kids get time off from public school for any dumb excuse. My kids had last Friday off for some snow make-up day that they didn't use. Add to that the fact that they already get off a half-day every Friday...it seems like they are hardly in school at all anymore.
Now England is the place to be. They have two bank holidays (early band holiday and late bank holiday) in the same month (I think it's May)! Those Europeans get all the holidays!

I am an advocate for year-round schooling. Four quarters with two week breaks in between.

I agree with that, but how do you attain skills...usually through practice. I have also yet to see anyone maintain completely control of any vehicle on a street that is a complete sheet of ice. It's just physics. If you have a near frictionless surface you will not be able to execute 90 degree turns while staying completely on the road.

I completely agree....but that idea isn't very popular with public school teachers.

Ontario got a holiday recently that coincides with President's Day, called Family Day, but Québec didn't get it.
