Crazy music trivia: At a show in Tacoma, Washington in 1989, Pete Townsend was windmilling so aggressively that he accidentally pierced his hand with the guitar's whammy bar and needed hospital treatment.

Are there any bands that have long lasting good relationships - or is it a band prerequisite to have strife and fight with the lead singer ?

I think it is. Also, that you go through many drummers, one of whom may spontaneously combust!

Paul Rogers of Bad Company used his martial arts skills to beat up more than one of his band members. I think most people get the idea that successful bands are some sort of democracy, when in fact it seems that all (or nearly all) sucessful bands have a leader (or leaders). Typically this is the singer, guitarist, or main songwriter. Often the leader(s) can be a bit too tyranical, causing the other band members to revolt. It can be much more complicated than that....but you get the idea. Seems that the most successful bands let their leader have the reigns and don't fight back.

Who was the first guitarist to swing their guitar around their neck on stage ? (I'm asking, I don't know)
The first guys that I recall doing it were the two guitarists from Cinderella. They did it in their "Shake Me" video. I don't know if they were the first, but they were the first that I saw.

It was actually Cinderella I was watching when the thought occurred to me that someone had to have been the "first" to do this. Closest I could find was a Wiki article on Guitar theatrics that said Yngwie Malmsteen was possibly the first to have done this.
And as far as vocalists being the ones who almost always have strife with the rest of the band, it seems like almost every VH1's Behind The Music I watch, the vocalist eventually causes problems, uproars, leaves the band to solo, etc. It's amazing how many bands would put out an amazing long lasting hit album, then u later learn they were all fighting and the singer was ready to leave. People think being in a huge band is like a dream come true... I think many of us "civilians" don't realize, it's just another job... with a LOT of work and fellow employees who suck, just like an average job.

yep !
Ever wonder about the double negative ? If you say you Hate Love, it's bad... but if you say you Love Hate, it's worse.... you cannot make a positive by reversing the words.

I was the victim of my very first "Hate Crime" last night. Jumped in the drive thru at KFC behind some lady who ordered ahead of me. She got her food, then pulled ahead and stopped. While I was handing the KFC person my money, I mentioned that the lady in front of me was getting out of her car and she may have forgotten something. She walked up to me instead and handed me a folded up paper.. I said "thank you" (assuming it was something like a Church invite or whatever). As I open it up, I see a photocopied letter she wrote and it's a tirade against men - I looked up and she already split ! Before I get my food, I read a couple lines and realize this is a letter spewing all kinds of hateful things against men and using all these harsh words.... I was dumbfounded and a little hurt/ a little pissed ! So I just wrote it off as a crazy lady who apparently hates men and wanted to spread the word. There's stuff in the letter about how much money a man should make, followed by how all men are Pr***less paupers. And that's the nicer words she used !
She wasn't like a weird homeless person who seemed crazy either, she was driving an older PT Cruiser and dressed fair, was around her 50s but looked a bit rode hard and put up wet. I think the weirdest part was the line "I don't date women"... um, I'm thinking if she hates men to this degree, maybe she needs to settle down with a nice lez or something. What a freak !
