I want to know what's old school.

To me, "old school" refers to bands that were around during metal's heyday (80's mainly).  I consider Saint, Stryper, Barren Cross, Sacred Warrior, Bride, Whitecross to be the main old school Christian metal bands.

Or it could be the sound. Letter 7 has an old school sound that hearkens back to the hair metal of the 80's.

Could also depend on the age of the speaker since the 90s grunge would be old school to teens.

I have to agree with the sentiments of others here.  The term "old school" just refers back to either the bands from the 70s & 80s or modern bands like Letter 7, Stryper, & Bloodgood who still have that classic metal sound.  Those types of bands were the ones that all the different genres of metal were built upon.  Those early bands taught these newer artists everything they new.  They were the original school, or in this case, the old school!

There ain't no school like old school!

The old school bands were the first Christian bands I listened too.
So there are real old school bands and new old school bands, based on the bands from the 70's and 80's.?

I really like the old school bands.

To me Old School is the old way of doing things.  It's all Rock-N-Roll at the core.

That's the way I like it!  I am ready to be deemed old by the younger generations and not accept the young-uns music!   lol!

Whenever I listen to a 'greatest rock hits' they always play Nirvana.  It is at times like that, when I realise what the 'mute' button is for!

That's so weird.
It kinda reminds me of how I've heard pop on a light rock station. That's a little different, though, but still.

I remember the first time I heard Guns N Roses on a classic rock station. I remember it was right between Hendrix and CCR. Man I felt old.

I thought the term Old School was started by Rap artists. I heard that term a LOT when listening to DCTalk SFC Dynamic Twins and such.
However, more recently I purchased a 7" record of punk music from a Christian distributor and it's called "Kicking it Old School" -the band's all play a sound that hearkens back to 80s punk, thus the name.
