A few years back someone here mentioned a site that kept track of cd sales by keeping record of upc scans. Does that site still exist?

I know Billboard still does that. However, on many indie labels, those albums are not tracked at all. How many of the new Bloodgood have they sold? The new Mission of One? Since those albums are not being scanned when they are sold, no one knows.

I know it is or was tracked by sound scan but it wasn't free to see it. Don't know why but you had to either pay huge money to see it or be an industry insider. I do know that cd sales are down and vinyl sales are up. I think to combat online piracy everyone needs to start making vinyl only releases.

That wouldn't work. Someone would still hook a turntable to the computer and upload the files.

The trouble with vinyl is that you can't play it in a car without scratching it in nothing flat.

OK… maybe 45… but I can't see an LP playing in a car on a bumpy back road.

I'm sorry if for some weird reason you could only get new music on vinyl, then I would be done with new music. I think the resurgence of vinyl records is great for all you turntable lovers, but I'm not going back there.

If I want snap, crackle, pop I'll listen to a bowl of Rice Krispies.
