I am going to make a startling self-revelation here.
I have never read or even looked at a single issue of Heaven's Metal magazine or the later rendition of HM magazine.
There, I said it, let the mocking begin.
No mocking, just an emoticon =

If any of you want to help, you could help me with some information about PDF files.
Here's the skinny- some issues are scanned as HQ jpgs, I can edit those with PaintShop Pro and convert them to PDF...
However, many issues have been scanned as PDFs and sent to me. PaintShop Pro accepts the PDF file, and I can edit the image, but the program is unable to save it back in PDF (I therefore lose lots of quality trying to save it as a jpg then converting BACK to PDF)
Have I lost you ?
Well, here's the jist: I need a program (preferably freeware) that will allow me to edit PDF files and save them without losing any quality.
Been doing lots of reading up on PDFs- prolly gonna get me a PDF for Dummies or something.

Here's an example of my editing work on one of the OLD issues... the early issues were folded in half and mailed, so you can imagine the damage to the print....

Current news:
I am in possession of 52 out of 54 issues scanned. Only an 1/8th of them have been edited and converted to PDF magazine format. But I am finding more time to work on them, so I suspect quite a few will be completed by the end of this month.
This project seems to be blessed every time I turn around ! I've recently obtained better software to edit each issue and finalize them as PDFs.
Only 2 things I'm in need of: the 2 missing issues and how to OCR the completed flat PDF files. (ie to make them word searchable rather than just a flat image)

The old classic issues are the best IMO, only cuz I'm a child of the 80s and prefer reading about classic long hair heavy metal bands over the newer screamo, depressing stuff.
Just my opinion.

here was tonight's challenge.... some of these early issues were pretty beat up. Without getting all George Lucas on it, I restored just the rubbed off black print -

Busy indeed. But I know I'm gonna be bummed when I see it, because there will be all these ads for albums that are so OOP that nobody has even heard them. Like that Brenda Christine album....I wanna hear that.

Oh man tnat does hurt....maybe we can feel a little better knowing that the recording quality would be so poor on some of them that they would be all but unlistenable.

I'll tell you what's been very cool about these early issues, and that's been reading about bands that have all but fallen off the face of the earth.
That's one thing I think this project will really benefit - reviving the old bands, the forgotten bands, and reading the great stories of popular band's humble beginnings.

Just a "BUMP" to update ya'all - I believe my goal of Spring 2013 will be accurate for completion as I am currently half done (and that's with taking 3 weeks off during the holidays).
So things are looking good for this project (other than the arthritis this old man has in his pinky...how can such a small joint hurt so much???)
More updates to come....

I can see a bit of difference, but it's only because I know there's a difference. You're doing a great job, man.

maybe a little contrast adjustment might help a little.. but you also have to remember that the pages should all be as similar as possible within each issue.. so adjusting it to much would be hard I suppose because you'd have to do the same adjustment to all of them.
