| Just finished 'His Dark Materials'. Pullman is a very good writer, but alas, his atheistic tendencies ruined what could have been the most epic trilogy since Lord of the Rings. Guess I need to pray for the guy. |

|
Let me know what you think of that (when you get to it). I was a little less than impressed.....kinda seemed like he was working on autopilot.
Well... I just finished Immanuel's Veins, and came away with mixed feelings. My wife also read it and we agree with the feeling he was writing on autopilot, at least for the first half of the book. As a story it was semi-allegorical, which I didn't have a problem with, but...it lacked a depth I have seen in other books by Dekker. I did, however like the ties to the Circle quadrilogy. In all, a good read, but not a great read. Don't get me wrong, I like Ted Dekker. A lot. I just don't think this story rises to the level hinted at by the testimonials in the front of the book. My 2 cents. |

I would have to agree with all of that. I think you were a little easier on Dekker than I was though. I have come to expect a little more from him, and thought it was definately in the bottom 30% of his work. On a scale of one to ten I think I would have given it a 5 or 6. Thanks for sharing your thoughts _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Although I have not read this, I will admit that I felt the same with "Green"--the 4th book of the Circle series. I think the 1st three were awesome but the last one was on autopilot. Ted's best work in the past couple of years was when he co-wrote with Erin Healy. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/ | |

| I agree with you on Green, but there wasn't much he could do with that story but tie up loose ends with it. not much room for creativity. I've only read Kiss, but it is very good. my wife is currently reading Burn, and I'm planning to scarf it up when she gets done with it. One thing I do like about Immanuel's Veins is how he ties vampirism with the Nephilim. |

| Yep, I think his best writing in the last few years has been those two books he collaborated on with Erin Healy (but I thought Green was still better than Immanuel's Veins). Maybe it's time for him and Frank Peretti to do another book together.

Time to get those eyes checked. Erin Healy is a female.

Time to get those eyes checked. Erin Healy is a female. I knew she was a female, what does that have to do with my comment? Didn't Dekker and Peretti collaborate on that "House" book? It wasn't my favorite genre, but it was well written. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| PouncerW, there is a sticky topic on this page for this. This thread has been dead for months as it should be since it was the 2010 list. Please repost this in the 2011 thread stuck at the top of the forum list. Thanks!
