So, what are your favorites? I put this in here because I know that some of you never enter or post in the main music forum. Your favorites can be standard hymns or newer tunes. I don't mind if they are by artists in genres other than rock, or even if they are by Christian artists. I just want to know:
What are your favorite Christmas songs?
Look, even Santa showed up with all his reindeer for this thread. He is smiling, so I know he is happy!

It's a newer song, but I really like Mark Lowry's "Mary, Did You Know?". It has some awesome lyrics to it.
I also like the same song done by Kutless. They give the song a little rock edge while still keeping the same reverent feelings. Great cover of a Christmas song!

One of the best non-traditional Christmas songs was Level Head's "Born in a Stable". It was on the "Broken Christmas" compilation way back when. Good stuff... tells the entire Gospel story with a unique sound.

One song that I have discovered this year that I am absolutley loving is "His Favorite Christmas Story" by Capital Lights on the X Christmas comp. It doesn't have a religious meaning to it and doesn't focus on Santa either. It is a story about a man who got to dance with a young lady in 1937 on Christmas Eve and falls in love on the spot. But, he doesn't get to talk to her long enough to get her name. His job pulled him away as he was a travelling salesman. The rest of the song is just snapshots of his life and him telling that favorite story of his to everyone he knows.
The chorus goes like this:
Quote :
He said, "I met her up in Delaware in 1937. She was wearing red lipstick to match her pretty dress. December 24th at a quarter till 11's when I finally gained the courage to ask her to dance."
I won't spoil how the song ends. You'll either have to get the song or search for the lyrics.

Actually, the following version of 'O Holy Night' by John Berry is my all time favorite. I have heard it hundreds of times but it still gets me...His version is guaranteed to bring a tear to a glass eye.

I hadn't heard it until a couple months ago, but I must agree - great song.
I like most Christmas songs really, especially the hymns, but there are several like the above or Theocracy's 'Bethlehem' that are wonderful.
Interesting, Joy to the World is one I don't care for all that much.

I think my top three are probably the good old traditional "Silent Night", the more modern/intense "Carol of the Bells" as done by the Trans Siberian Orchestra, check it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cY1otyfwu1o and more recently added to my list is "Christmas Shoes" by Newsong. That song totally touched myself and my friends
Thanks for starting this thread Alldat, Im not always up to date on CHM but I do love to read/post in the music discussions

An other Christmas song I like is "The First Noel" of Third Day.
Sabidoo I agree with you "O Holy Night" is a very touchy Christmas song. I love the version by Rebecca St. James.

Never listened to Chrismas music. It started some years ago when I listened to Rock Power Praise "The Christmas Hymns". This year I am enthusiast about Third Day's "Christmas Offerings". That's my favorite Christmas album.

Joy To The World was not written as a Christmas song. It was originally intended to focus on Christ's second coming. Read the lyrics with that in mind sometime and it will give you a whole new perspective on the song.
As far as "new" songs go, Mary Did You Know is pretty tough to top. Great song.
For the traditional carols, my favorite is probably Silent Night.

Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room, And heaven and nature sing, And heaven and nature sing, And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.
Joy to the world, the Savior reigns! Let men their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
No more let sins and sorrows grow, Nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessings flow Far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found, Far as, far as, the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of His righteousness, And wonders of His love, And wonders of His love, And wonders, wonders, of His love.
