My wife will do that too, if she hollers for our daughter twice and doesn't get a response, she will call her on her cell phone (even though they are in the same house).
Kind of funny.

I text with my kids too and call them when it's supper time even though we are in the same house.
Walking two stairs to tell the food is ready is a "heavy job".
Sometimes you call and get no response than the cell phone is the solution to reach them.

If you try to call them and the line is busy, it's because they are texting their friends.
