Favorites for 2021!

I need to check that Angel 7 out.

In 2021 there has been medical problems with my husband.
A very rough time.
That's why I wasn't very interested in buying new music.

That's completely understandable.  I hope you are both feeling better, and that 2022 will have better health for your hubby.

I think we all understand.  Life gets in the way of doing the things we like.  You have had your hands full for sure.

This is inspired by Chris' post on Facebook, but I am in the process of putting together the annual Angelic Warlord top 25 albums of the prior year.  So here is a 'sneak peek' at the top 5 for 2021:

1. Trytan - Blood of Kings
I like the 'noodling' and appreciate the lengthy, complex songwriting

2. The Thomas Thompson Earth Project - Systematic Brain Drain
So heavy but also so melodic

3.  The Brave - Evie's Little Garden
Classic eighties melodic metal and hard rock

4. InnerSiege - Fury Of Ages
Surprised this has not been mentioned...

5. Sunbomb - Evil And Divine
See above.  Also, not a Christian album per se, but Michael Sweet contributes all lyrics

Rounding out the remaining 20 are a host of others, including Images of Eden, Gale Force, Northern Flame, Darkhorse Hero, Moonshine Zombies, Reflection of Glory, etc.

Look for it to be online within the next couple weeks.

Didn't know they had a new release. I got to run sound for them at a show a long time ago when they were still Strangeland.

Besides Blood of Kings, another early 2021 release that was pretty good was Reflection of Glory's Escape the Dream.  Might not be heavy enough for some, might be too proggy for others.

Having finally acquiring more 2021 releases, I’m going to attempt a (tentative) top 5:

1. The Brave: Evie’s Little Garden 

Holy cow, this rules. 

2. Thee Final Chaptre: So Let It Be Done

Excellent USPM. Really well done.

3. Trytan: Blood of Kings

A fantastic return from them with excellent lyrics and musicianship.

4. Angel 7: Victory 

Really excellent throughout with Christ-exalting lyrics and legible death vocals. 

5. Brotality: Worldwide Desolation

Really good and hopefully an indicator of excellent things to come.

I don't know much about this band of siblings as I'm not a huge fan of thrash.  I had no idea they were a Christian/Christian friendly kind of band.

They're thrashy, but I wouldn't call them straightforward thrash. Definitely heavy, though. Also definitely Christian.

I can't decide if their name is hilarious or stupid or somewhere in between 

Brotality is too over the place vocally. Kind of punky shouted vocals to modern rock to deathy, some reason it bothers me.

I still need to pick that one up, but I’ve heard good things.

If you haven't heard it listen first, it's different then their past stuff. Tiago James from Hand of Fire is on it and you can hear his influence, kind of Korn feel at times.

I edited my list to add Reminiscent - Memory Of The Scars.  It came out at the very end of the year and I only just now picked it up but it's very good!  It's symphonic doom/death/dark metal a la Morphia or Crowned In Sorrow.  While it's clear English isn't their first language, the lyrics are quite good IMO.  In general I'm not the biggest fan of operatic female vocals which make their appearance on this album a moderate amount, but otherwise I really dig it a lot.
