Favorite song from Petra Praise 2-We Need Jesus (1997)

And now we get to an era that a lot of fans just plain despise. An era I like to call Petra-lite. For years, I was one of those who despised everything they put out from here until Jekyll and Hyde. But although these next few albums are not anywhere near as heavy as their predecessors, they would eventually grow on me, and they still have some really good, edifying songs. I'm going with Ancient of Days for my pick here.

I very rarely listen to this CD.  I like "worship music," and I understand bands wanting to produce it; after all, the Bible tells us that if we don't praise God the rocks will, and the most common form of praise to God is via this type of music. Some will argue, and IMO be more-or-less correct, that praise is praise no matter what form it takes; we can praise God with polka music!   Heck, maybe He'll even dance to it! LOL.  

Sorry ... got lost down a rabbit trail there!  

I gotta be honest, the only song I know from here is "Lord I Lift Your Name On High," and I can't even swear that the version I know is Petra's! LOL!

I barely remember what the songs sound like on this one.  I remember hoping Ancient of Days would have a little more kick to it.

The only song I heard off this one is Lord I Lift Your Name On High. A church I used to attend used to sing this one but I didn't know it was a Petra song. Later I heard it on K-Love and I'm like "Hey that's John Schlitt!"

Didn't vote. Heard a couple of songs from it...yawn. Petra's take was not imaginative nor was it even in step with their identity as a hard rock band. It was indeed Petra-lite, and this was the first Petra album (in a series of several to come) that I never bought.

I agree with FOJ's analysis here.  I picked "We Need Jesus" because John Schlitt+John Elefante+Lou Gramm was just golden.  I think that was the only "original" on here.

I voted for "Be Of Good Cheer".  I love the opening riff on that one.  Being from a southern Baptist background, I was very unfamiliar with these songs when this came out.  So, I could care less about them being someone else's arrangement.  I know that inspired other bands like SonicFlood to do rock worship.

To me, it's not any lighter than "Wake Up Call".  Sure, it is light, but it is far better than their first worship record and is light years ahead of "Petra Praise 3" or even "Two Guys From Petra".  This is one that I still play regularly on Sundays when I want worship music in the car on the way to church.  It hands down beats out anything that Passion or Hillsongs have done.

I Waited For The Lord is a great track!  MY favourite!
