They were or are a member of a band.
Decided to make a solo CD.

Michael Sweet is a member of Stryper but made a several solo CDs too.
Are there more artists who play or played in a band and made solo albums too?

Do you like their solo albums more than the albums of the band they played in?
The artist who made solo albums do they used a complete different music style than the band they play/played in?

It seems like there are 2 reasons a musician will make a solo album rather than making the same album with the band they originated from.

1. The band is done, finished, over. The only way the artists can make another album is to do it solo, or start/join another band.

or

2. The material the artist want's to record is a departure from what the band typically records.

Number 2, seems to be the most common reason.

This is what I mean.

Greg Chaisson played in Red Sea, but made a solo CD too.
Scott Wenzel is doing the vocals for Whitecross but made a several solo CDs.
Dale Thompson is the vocalist of Bride and made some solo CDs too.
I am sure there are more names to mention.

John Schlitt did a couple of solo projects while with Petra.

I listened to his solo stuff but now I know it's not Christian it's not interesting anymore.
I think Mike Lee did a better job in Barren Cross.

Bryan Duncan had a very successful solo career after leaving Sweet Comfort Band.

I preferred Sweet Comfort Band by far, though.
