So, I can't eat cheese or oranges. They're two of the things I love to eat the most, but if I do, then I get ocular migraines - which I wouldn't wany anyone to experience. (Flashing lights, feeling dizzy, sick and having a headache. As soon as I get one, I have to stop what I'm doing - even if I'm super busy at work, and lie down for at least half an hour... usually in a dark room. Then for the rest of the day I feel rubbish).
I haven't eaten any cheese or oranges in three and a half years, and I have also had no migraines! Which is great.
One of the side effects of all this, is that I have to go looking for a cheese replacement service (as I like to call it.) Now there's some great stuff out there, and although it's not exactly like cheese, it comes in as a good second place. I can now have fake cheese on toast, pizza etc. Every so often they bring out a new fake cheese and it tastes better than the last. Because of this, I often look out for 'vegan' items in the supermarket, and that means I end up eating fake meat as well.
Again, the meat isn't quite there yet, as none of it tastes as good as the real thing... but, it is getting closer, and it does taste okay.
Let's look to the future though.
Let's imagine they have created a fake chicken, fake beef, fake lamb food, which is actually just as good as the real thing, but it also has some other benefits to it.
So, my question is...
Other than "it's my right" or "it's in the Bible", how can someone say "I'm going to kill that animal to eat it." With all this lefty stuff coming on strong at the moment, I think it's going to be increasingly difficult to defend the position of being a meat eater.
As a Christian I find it easy to answer with "God said it was okay." But that doesn't hold any sway with the liberal/atheists of this world.
What thoughts has anyone got on the subject... (right now I fancy a bacon sandwich!)

LOL I just ate a bacon sandwich for lunch. Also, I'm a total weirdo (in more ways than one, I know!) and don't like cheese.
Anyways, onto your question... My initial thought is that we shouldn't HAVE to defend that position. You don't want to eat meat? Then don't! You do? Then do! I'm so sick of everyone trying to control everyone else (be it masks, vaccines, vehicles, food...). Sadly, that's the world we live in now I guess. I suspect this "meatflation" everyone's talking about (which I thought was going to be the topic of this thread) is quite intentional to force meat off the dinner table, though I don't have any data to back that up.

Our bodies are made to eat meat and it has nutrients that are hard to get outside of that. It's funny, the crowd that says since animals have homo sex so it's okay are against eating meat.

I don't care how good the substitute is, why would I eat something artificially made when I can have the real thing?

Is that all kind's of cheeses? Like have you tried goat cheese to see if it different?
The one thing I will say, is it always seems like whatever alternative is out there, has it's drawbacks as well. remember when we were told to eat soy? Now they say that it's not that good for you? Some of the plant based alternatives end up with more junk in them than the real thing. I think the key is: moderation. Which can be a difficult thing for the modern American.

I've never tried goats cheese, and a number of people have said I should try it. Trouble is, having cheese doesn't give me an immediate migraine, it could be a few days, it could be not at all. I just don't want to risk it. It could be the fact that if I had a small slice each week I would be completely fine, but it feels like putting your arm in a box of snakes, you may not get bitten, but do you want to take the chance.
As for meat... It's steak pie tonight.

The replacements are full of fillers and have to be injected with vitamins and minerals to even pass off as food. They are injected with artificial fats to even make them hold together and act like real meat. Your body will digest them, but it is already proven that these fake fats are harder on the body and more likely to be stored around your mid-section than real fats.
So, why would we want to eat something potentially dangerous when the Lord told Peter to "kill and eat"? Granted He was making a point about adding the Gentiles to the fold, but under God's law there were many animals already considered clean that we could devour if we were good Jews. Would we rather eat something man-made that isn't really all that it is cracked up to be, or would we rather eat the food that the Lord prepared for people?
Of course, if the liberals have their way, they will drive farmers out of business by raising fuel prices and making meat where we can't afford it so we have to accept their replacements. I think they really want to control every aspect of our lives. My brother has seen ground beef here that was $7 per pound. So, I ordered 5 lbs. from one of the teachers at school who sells farm-fresh meats and will save quite a bit of money in doing so. Take that, corporate American and liberal socialist Demoncrats!!!

Good points Chris. I read an article from a nutritionist saying this GMO and lab made food was making us feel full while we're starving.

Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear you have such horrible reactions to cheese and oranges.
I don't know where biblically we should stand once they start mass producing fake meats. However fake meat, and fake cheeses are all processed foods. I have yet to see a study that indicates a prolonged diet of any processed food as having positive health benefits. Natural (non-processed) foods seem to have the best nutrition benefits. While they seem to pump farm animals with steroids and vitamins I think at this point they are still healthier than most meat substitute processed foods. My wife and I did the vegan thing rather faithfully for a year. The worst foods we ate where fake cheese and fake meats (both worst flavor and worst nutritional value). The best stuff we had where natural fruit and veggie based and even somewhat processed items like smoked tofu. I created my own fake chicken once called Seitan (for chicken gyros). It was a huge pain in the butt to make, was an odd mixture of grains gluten, spices and nutritional yeast, and while not at all horrible tasting it was nothing like chicken.

I have no problem defending meat eating. It's meat all the way for me. My body can't absorb non-haem iron so without meat, I'd get anemic pretty quick. That said, I'm totally about moderation. I'd never get through more than a 4 oz steak without feeling over full. I once went to a Texas BBQ near Austin. The left overs fed me for the week! What I really wanted was more of the beans. They served this squidy little scoop of the most gorgeous beans and then half a cow on my plate. Whacky place. I use a coconut cheese, cheese replacement sometimes. It's nice. It's really fattening though so I don't have it often. While I can't have cow's dairy, I've found goat's milk gouda is good eats for me. Nom nom. Expensive though. A little herb called Feverfew got rid of migraines for me. Tastes hideous and is toxic in large quantities. Every day I have a piece of leaf no bigger than the nail on my little finger. I hide it in my sandwich. Every once and a while I stop taking it and the migraines return so I start back up again. It's bleh, but magic.

On a side note I cannot do cow dairy. It makes me quite ill (intestinally... it's gross... and painful). I have found that I can eat goat or sheep cheese (in moderation). It is really tasty, but much more costly, so I don't have it often.

Does that include milk in your coffee (or tea)?

No cow dairy at all. With my tea (not a coffee drinker) I will usually use oat milk or almond milk. But I drink like one or two cups of tea a week (so I don't use much non-diary milk).

I didn't know that you couldn't drink cow dairy. I feel less of a freak knowing that you have something similar to me. Cows have a lot to answer for!

Is "squidy" a real word? I like it!
I love vernacular and slang, love to incorporate new words into my vocabulary. I happened to be reading a list of Brit slang just this morning. Anybody else weird like me this way?
