Subject: New cell phone / Privacy? Mon Jun 22, 2020 12:32 pm
So I'm getting a new phone tomorrow and am at a crossroads. I love Android's interface and have always hated iPhone. Unfortunately Android is a Google phone, I don't know if you can hack it to change that fact. I've changed a lot of things in recent months like my Browser is now Brave on my PC and Duck Duck on my phone. The older I get and the more I see what's going on in Amerika, the more paranoid I'm getting and want the luxuries of my phone without all the Big Brother eyes. Do any of you have any suggestions, what phones are you using?

I have no preference of iPhone or Android but I use an Android because they are cheaper and I use Straight Talk so I have to buy a phone outright. I have a Moto One Action. I love it. It's got Google and Amazon but I use those all the time anyway and I use the Free Adblocker browser. No idea how to remove google stuff from the phone.

And I just checked the Play store and see the DuckDuckGo! browser so I am downloading that as well.

I trust nothing anymore, but I suppose if those private browsers are doing what they say they're doing, then it sure is better than the evil Google empire.
I sometimes think about just unplugging it all and going back to the early 90s

Does that mean you're getting rid of all of your music that's been made since the early 90's?

You have officially become our resident "foil-hat guy". Just kidding, kind of. I do believe we are being spied upon with our phones, laptops, and televisions....not to mention alexa and google-home. But as of right now I don't think anyone is listening to all of it (just too much info)....but I could definitely see a day when computer programs (or even A.I.) will sort trough all our audio, text and images to look for certain "concerns".

Just remember that it's not the FBI agent who is listening in on you, it's the NSA agent

DDG isn't even that great, they just don't keep your history these days. Face it, if you have an active phone, you can be spied on.

I honestly don't think you can avoid it at this point, unless you get one of those fancy flip phones from the late 90's that all the old people have now. I remember reading an article where some one took a brand new phone and turned everything off on it, drove around town for a day, and some how it still tracked them.

Yeah just get one of these!
or even better one of these! They could never track you with this phone! but you couldn't make calls on it since it is inflatable. Imagine the looks you'd get walking down the street talking on this!

I am using Brave on my desktop with DuckDuckGo as my search now. I am using the DuckDuckGo browser on my phone. I wish they had a search widget. I would get rid of those Google features on my phone.
Brave needs to do the whole Google Docs type thing. I would use it all the time. I do all of my sermon prep and outlines in Google docs. It is a great free office suite that doesn't take up so much room like Open Office.

Just to be a smart aleck, I sometimes start shouting stuff with my phone next to me. Usually stuff like George soros sucks or Trump rules, or Hillary is the antichrist.

To top it off, with the advent of 5G around the bend, these flip-phones will soon be obsolete.

Thanks for the recommends ya'all! I've been hard at work dumping or transferring info from any Google programs I used to use and have started using other services for everything.
Google already has algorithms to search for "terrorist" key words, it's a short jump to destroying lives and charging people with "hate speech" and so on. The police who were recently fired for saying horrible racist things among themselves should for sure be fired. While what they said IS Freedom of speech, it's NOT if you're on the job and you represent the police force, who have pledged to serve and protect without bias, then you are responsible to lose the hate and prejudices. Where I have an issue is how they're trying to press criminal charges on these men. As much as I hate racists, those men are NOT criminals for "TALKING". We all say things we shouldn't. I said all that to make the point that, Google's invasion of our right to privacy and freedom of speech is a slippery slope to the socialist communist countries that JAIL their citizens for WORDS. Several on the Left want to see people punished for speaking and preaching against homosexuality and the like. If I wanted to text something negative about a "protected" or "minority" group (which I never would) I have the Constitutional freedom to do so, they're working HARD to take that freedom away and severely punish people for their words.
Anyways, sorry, rant over. I just am getting very leery of these big companies taking our rights away
