| How many at CHM still HAVE physical CD collections? How many currently COLLECT CDs? or how about owning and/or collecting cassettes or LPs still? Which of you ONLY have digital collections - Mp3s ONLY? I know we've had this discussion before many years ago, but it's time for an updated thread on everyone's music collection Me, I have 3000 CDs, 800 LPs, 200 7"45s, 25 Cassettes, and 650GB of Mp3s. But who's counting? | |

| I still have some cd's but I've downsized a lot as we've moved, just not as much room. I also don't have the money to spend on cd's as much so it's sadly move to more digital. | |

| I still have most of the CD's I have purchased since the mid 80's. I have more records now than I ever had (not sure how many probably several hundred). I have no cassettes, other than TDK/Maxell/etc that I or a friend have made over the years. Some of those tapes are probably 35-40 years old and they still play. I have a cassette deck I don't use it but it is there if I need it. I digitized most of the stuff I wanted from them. I have downloads as well from iTunes and Amazon but it has been a while since I have bought an album via download (might have been last year when I downloaded the first Night Demon album). | |

Do they get most of the releases from Roxx and Retroactive? That tends to be most of my new purchases as of late. For me, I am still a CD collector. I've got some rarities. I am rebuying some that I have that are rare if they are remastered and really sound better (like Zion) or if they have bonus tracks added that are good quality (like Ransom's first album or the two Fighter reissues). I have over 1,000 CDs. I should downsize and just go digital, though, as it would be so much easier. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/

| Same here, most new purchases are reissues from Roxx or Retroactive.
I also have found a ton of "free" music via the Amazon Music app with Prime. Lots of the old Instense stuff is on there for a free download.

| I've got CDs, vinyl, cassettes and MP3's. For the most part, I am still collecting CDs and vinyl with an occasional cassette (usually as part of a reissue like Consecrator or Tourniquet). | |

| I buy the CDs when at all possible, especially albums. I may buy DLs of individual tracks at times.
My collection is probably not huge, by a true collectors standard, but I think I've still got every CD I've ever bought. I've definitely lost cassettes though.

| definitely a collector...I think it's a sickness of some kind LP ~500 45s ~a handful CD ~1000 CS ~40-50 DIG ~??? the only one I don't really actively buy is cassette. although I did just buy the Greeting Of Death cassette to go with all the rest the other formats. not really sure why, I havent bought a cassette in probably 25+ years... I prefer to buy physical but will buy digital if it is the only format available or if it is on the lower end of the i-want-to-buy-that scale or free

| I wouldn't consider myself a collector. I try to only buy & keep what I will actually listen to. Right now I think I have too many and will probably need to get rid of some stuff that I don't really enjoy listening to.
No LPs in my collection Maybe a dozen old cassettes that I only keep to justify having MP3 copies CDs almost 900 MP3 albums 750 _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| I had an old 45 from the band Heart. I believe the A-side was "What About Love", but the B-side was this super cool non-album track that I have never seen released in their catalog on any other format (it was called "Heart of Darkness). I would love to have a decent quality clean digital version of that song again. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

I SO wish I still had my old cassettes from back in the day. I had quite a few rare ones, but like everyone else when CDs became the popular medium of choice, I ripped all my cassettes to CD-Rs and sold/gave away my tapes - hundreds of them - Quote :

Wow, things like that are cool - not that it was never on an album, but that you have the rare song at all. Do you have a turntable to play it on? - Quote :

| CD's - 700 LP's - 1 CS's - 10 Downloads - a couple, but I always stick them straight on a CD.
I much prefer having a physical copy in my hands, so I can read the notes, look at the artwork, and read the lyrics. I guess in the end it will all go digital, but I'm holding on for as long as I can (or at least for 100 years!) _________________ My Christian Metal Website......... Silence Is Madness

THIS !!! You said it brotha, exactly how I am. I will never go digital (again.. tried it for about 3 years, didn't like it at all) I have gotten to the place where I buy the CD, rip it, and then file it away never to be touched again unless my hard drive crashes. Going digital would be so easy. If we all were really gung-ho about technology, we'd all be paying for a streaming service and using that.

| With the secular bands I have, I don't have any of those in hard copy format. I don't have the money or the space for all those albums, too. When you start looking at 15 albums by Bon Jovi, probably 20 by KISS and AC/DC, plus other artists with huge catalogs like Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, and so many others, I just can't store all that. I would have to become the guy who kept the front cover and disc and toss the rest just to house what I had.
If not for releases from Roxx, Retroactive, and now Girder Records, I could go digital. Those three tend to just release the CD but nothing digitally.

| Retroactive is hit or miss about that. I wish Whiteray was out for download, I can't afford the 20 plus shipping. | |

No, sadly I don't even have that old 45 anymore. Got rid of all of my LPs and 45's almost 20 years ago....hadn't had a record player for probably 10 years before that. I probably only had about 40 of them, and only few were rare. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| I have some digital releases from iTunes that came with digital booklets. Krokus - Dirty Dynamite and Black Sabbath -13. Would be nice if all releases came with a PDF of the booklet. I don't know why just some have it. If more came with digital booklets I would buy more. Sometimes the download is cheaper than the CD so I'll buy the digital files. But other times it seems now the CDs are cheaper so I'll just order the CD. | |

I totally agree. I have a couple dozen albums that I purchased mp3 downloads of as they didn't have physical media available. Of those, I can only recall maybe 3 that have a nice information/lyric pdf or txt document. I don't know why they don't offer tons of cool dox, videos, and other extras when buying downloads - it costs the bands either nothing or next to nothing to produce and it would be a big incentive for the fan. - Quote :

MAJOR PET PEAVE ALERT !! LOL ! Naw, I get it. I've been without space, and I've been without money. Thankfully I have a little of both as of late, thus the music room and the increasing stacks. I quit ripping new albums to mp3s since I only listen at home and in the car, and in both cases I just use CDs. I have thumb drives with thousands of songs on each one in my car - each drive is a category ie "Radio rock", "Radio pop", "Lisa country" etc - those are for long trips when I'm with others and I don't want to grab a stack of CDs. And I admit, I'm occasionally in the mood to shuffle thousands of songs and not listen to one band. But now more than ever I like to get to know a band by immersing myself in one band/artists music.
