Featuring...

So there was a brief discussion about all the various versions of different albums and how most of the time, the bonus songs aren't that great.

But what about an artist that is featured on other people's stuff? I don't mean someone that's in several different bands (Christian Rivel comes to mind, as does Rob Rock). I'm talking about a consistent artist that is featured on lots of releases.

A good example I can think of isn't actually hard rock or metal - Kari Jobe. She's featured on about a dozen albums by other people. Would a big fan buy all these just to have her appearance? Or just the mp3 downloads? Or neither?

I've run into this a few times and waffle on if to purchase the music or not.

If it's just a song on one album I might buy the song...unless I dig the other band, which may lead me to just buy the whole album.  Usually it is a surprise to me when I find an artists I really like on someone else's album.  I'm a huge Doro fan and have all of her solo albums.  I've also purchased the odd track she sings on (usually a duet with another artists).  So I have a song with her singing with U.D.O, and another one where she sings with the band Sister Sin, but didn't purchase the entire album for either band.

To be honest, I don't buy albums where a singer I like makes a guest appearance.  I don't even buy the song unless I really like the artist they are guesting with.
