I'm a big fan of 80s music in general, but among 80s bands, The Hooters are a favorite of mine ("All You Zombies", "Satellite", "And We Danced", "Day By Day", etc.). Last night I stumbled across their unique cover of the Don Henley classic "The Boys of Summer". This was done in 2007 and is almost a completely different song from the original.

I really like what I have heard from the Hooters myself (I used to have one of their greatest hits albums). Great band, and very well written songs. I dig their take on the Henley classic.
Rob Hyman & Eric Bazilian are both talented writers and they wrote the bulk of the bands catalog of music. Hyman did pretty much everything on Joan Osborne's hit album "Relish" (well he didn't sing lead vocals). He also co-wrote one of Cindy Lauper's big hit's "Time After Time" (with Cindy). The band recorded a live version of the song that appears on that greatest hits album I used to own.
If it sounds exactly like the version that Cindy recorded (except with a guy singing) that's because Eric Bazilian did the musical arrangement for the version Cindy recorded.

Nice, always anjoyed The Hooters, had no idea they were still around. As for Boys Of Summer I really enjoy the original. And i am not a fan of the "new" sound on younger bands but I also enjoy this version:

Oh and here's another unknown remake I like. Love some Men At Work! And the ending of the song is great when Colin Hay appears

Not really digging that Atari's cover. But I'm not at all a fan of that style. I found the Lazlo Bane cover to be alright....very 90's sounding. Even though it seems like they didn't really "put their own stamp on it" at least it seems like they mostly channeled the original mood of the song.
