How's the summer this year where you live?
What do you like the most in summer?
For Jen, how's your winter this year?

Our summer started off a wee bit hot but has been rather nice. We've been in the upper 80's or low 90's for most of the time. We've not had any record highs, but we have had a couple of record lows in the early mornings. One day when I was at camp, it was only 62 degrees. It warmed up to 90 that afternoon, though.

It tends to get rather hot and humid out here. This past week we had a few days get up to 110. What that felt like after the humidity factor ,I don't know.

Usually pretty mild. We are used to getting rain, but during the summer can go up to 8 weeks without it (considered a serious drought in our part of the world). We almost never break 100 degrees (F), but a few years ago we had 3 days in a row over 100. This July has been unseasonably warm with several days breaking into the low 90's. Our humidity levels are not at all predictable, they can run all over the place.

We had record breaking heat, but it's rained for the last day and a bit (thankfully). I believe it's going to get hot again this week though...

As I am sure most of you know, it can get a bit 'warm' in Phoenix during the summer. As a matter of fact, following is a recent weather forecast:

totally unrelated (I guess it IS weather!) but every time I hear/read the phrase "record breaking" I immediately think of this epic video:

Pretty much the same here. Too hot to do anything at all outside for the most part. Panama City is basically lower Alabama. I was pouring sweat the other day going thru the shed looking for fall decorations. Stopped and went out when the sun went down and got on the ladder and searched thru the loft and found what she and the kids wanted.
Slightly off topic but I bought some of these at Harbor Freight and they work awesome (not to mention 3 or 4 of them were free with the coupons they have). Plus they are magnetic so I can put one up high while on the ladder and i can see everything. I have them all over the shed and it lights up the whole thing super bright (we bought a new shed back in May that has 2 lofts for extra storage and that's where we keep the Christmas, Fall, Easter, etc decorations).
Now as for it being hot.... It has been too hot to go to the beach. I think this is the first summer ever where we haven't been to the beach a SINGLE time! This probably has more to do with diabetes than anything as insulin needs to stay cool and it would just be too hard to do it in this heat. We do have a "frio pack" which keeps insulin room temp for up to 48 hours but it has been so hot it just doesn't sound fun to go sit in the direct sun and get in the Gulf which has water in the upper 80's. You get in and feel cool for about 2 minutes then feel like you're in a hot bath.

It's actually been rather mild for me up here in Pennsylvania. Of course, I'm from Texas, so I know a thing or two about summer heat

Our summer started at the end of April. Since then it's very warm here with less rain.
What I like in summer is, that's so long light in the evening.
What I don't like it the thunderstorms or heat waves.

Winter has been brrr. Seems much colder than normal. I lit my first fire in April. Normally I don't start running a blaze until the end of May. This winter, it's been so cold that if I'm at home, I wear a woolen beanie and carry my electric blanket wherever I go. Sit down and plug it in...except on the bed. There I just pile on blankets to keep warm...and wear a beanie of course.
Still, it's better than when I first moved into this house. It had gaps in the floorboards that were wide enough for you to actually see the ground under the house. I have since insulated the floor so it's much, much warmer and less draughty.
The good news is that with a colder winter, there will be fewer bugs this summer and a better garden. Always a silver lining.

Yes, we had quite the monsoon storm yesterday evening- near hurricane force winds, tons of rain, thunder, lightning strikes, etc. Watched it from the garage and enjoyed every minute. But yes, everything is fine here- lots of downed trees, broken branches, power lines down. Fortunately, did not loose power here. Otherwise, safe and sound. More storms on the way next week.

Here, it's been humid as usual, but precipitation-wise it's been dry. 80s and 90s, plus a fairly high humidex.

Wow, I find it astounding that you didn't lose power (all your power lines must be buried). Seems like if we get a wind over 30mph half of the state loses power for several days. I used to joke that a bear could fart in the woods and we would lose power. Glad to hear you didn't have any serious damage, and you are safe.

Well, the new school year is under way! We have the first official day of school in my county already behind us. Just 174 more days until summer break!

So sad that you're counting down to the next holiday.
My girlfriend had childcare problems today so I've had her four-year-old with me today. What a lark. We went to the pet store where she got to hold a baby guinea pig. I took her to her swimming lesson. Then, we came back home and baked cookies and, of course, played the piano. So fun, but so tiring.

It is a joke that most teachers will make on the first day of school. To be honest, you really don't think much about the breaks until you start getting two or three weeks out. With special needs students, you have to prepare the autistic ones for the change in their routine or you will pass off all sorts of bad behavior to their parents. We've witnessed that and start discussing things like fall break, Christmas break, spring break, holidays, and summer break days or weeks in advance so they know it is coming.
Unlike most teachers, we have the same students for a possibility of 8 years. My kids can stay in school until the year they turn 22. They don't change classes like most high schoolers, either. We spend 7 hours a day with them. You get to know them very well. So, while I may joke about the holidays, I love and miss my babies when we are out. They are good people who just want you to love them like they have no disabilities and help them where they do have them. If you can understand that, you will work out great with my students.
