PostSubject: Slow Year for New Music?   Slow Year for New Music? I_icon_minitimeThu Apr 20, 2017 2:43 pm

Is anyone else experiencing a slow year for new music?  I have only purchased (and actually recieved) two new albums in the Christian hard rock/metal category so far this year (Four Star Revival - Underdog & the Mission of One reissue for Take Another Swig).  I did purchase the new Rose album but haven't gotten it yet (although I expect it any day now).

I purchase about the same quantity of new secular music on average over the last 5-6 years as well and I only have 3 new albums in the secular category.

If I keep going at this rate I'm looking at less than 20 new albums this year....barely half of what I usually purchase.

I've bought a lot of older albums or stuff of different genres, but when it comes to rock and metal this is a slow year thus far.  I have bought more than you as I have gotten Apologetix, Rose, Four Star Revival, The World Will Burn, Bone Prophet, and will soon have the new one by The Letter Black.

Yes, I think the first 4 months of this year were slow for the music I like.
I've bought Bone Prophet.
On my "plan to buy list"are the Rose album and This World Will Burn.

Yes, it's been slow.  But I've got Signum Regis new album so I'm set for the year anyway! Smile

The World Will Burn is having good success with our release "RuiNation".  I like to think it's because this album rocks and not because there isn't much competition so far.

Yes, we do....and I'm usually the one that starts them.  Laughing
I guess patience isn't my strong suit (where the heck did that term come from "strong suit"...weird).

Are they even together?  If they are, they could do a remaster of their debut and offer it as a bonus on their Kickstarter or Pledge Music drive to record a full new album.  Hey, if we are going to dream, we may as well dream big!

Now, if only we could get a new Whitecross, Petra, and Rage Of Angels album!  Ok, I have probably crossed the line into ridiculousness now.

Unfortunately I was only dreaming.  I generally don't listen to them, and haven't done for a number of years.  A few days ago I dug Rock N Race out and stuck it in the car.  They rock!  I'd forgotten how good they were!

My Traxter CD is in excellent shape, too.   Since I ripped it to MP3, I never play the disc.

The main guy behind Traxter seems to have gone away from Christian stuff anyway.  You can find a more recent album he's been on on CDbaby...
If you listen then beware, it's got a warning regarding the lyrics!

"The year was 2002 when the original founders, aka. T-Sick and Rick Trigger joined forces to start this venture. Terrence Steven, Fischer aka "T SICK" or just " T " ...one of the premier guitarist/ songwriters in town has played with countless bands including such as Uncle Maxx, Traxter, BEE-OH-BEE, Mento Buru to name a few.."

I get a kick out of when bands do this....especially when the list of "previous bands" includes half-a-dozen groups almost nobody has ever heard of.

Kelly, I apologize for not getting those uploaded and to you when I said.  I just let it slip my mind.  I wasn't sure if you would see this here first or on Facebook.  Either way, the files are in your email, bro.

I have bought the newest release by Sunroad and True Strength.  I haven't had the chance to spin them yet, though, as I was jammin' to some AC/DC on the way home.

We have had years that it was slow for new music.
Maybe it's harder to record a new CD or it's more expensive.
Can that be a reason?

Costs have always been high if you go to someone else's studio.  Besides, these days you can build a good digital studio and stay under $5000 IF you don't have to buy things like drums, build soundproof rooms, etc.

I'd say it has more to do with bands being unable to tour and also with the fact that people don't buy music.  They stream it for the most part.  So, even if you make it, you are probably not going to make your money back.  Many bands are learning this and will just stop making new albums as they don't see that the financial payback will be worth it.

I read this the day (or maybe two days) after you posted it and meant to reply.

Strong suit is a term from cards - specifically bridge. When you have several high cards of one suit in your hand, that's your strong suit - you will win each hand with that someone leads with that suit. It carried over to mean what it does now - something you're skilled at doing.
