It was The Young Ones.  They showed episodes on MTV when I was in college.  The Bambi episode was my introduction to Motorhead as they played "Ace of Spades" while the guys were making their way to the train to compete in University Challenge against a snooty school team with people like Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, and Emma Thompson.

Is yours perhaps Mad Magazine?

That's pretty cool. I was one of the losers who didn't get MTV. We had 13 channels and my parents refused to do ON TV, or Select TV, or those gigantic satellites that look like you were communicating with aliens. I used to watch music videos at a couple different friend's houses.

Yup, MAD it is cheers

Wow!  You had thirteen channels!  You must be one of them rich city folk!  We had 6 channels total and had to have an antenna to pick them up.  Cable didn't even run through my hometown until I was 22 or 23.

In the 70s we lived in Los Angeles and with our antenna we only got 9 channels + UHF. When we moved to the desert, we became very privileged individuals as they were 13 channels including PBS ! We came into our own then !  Laughing

No takers?  To figure this out, just remove the hints you do not know.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

James Doohan played Mr. Scott (aka Scotty) on Star Trek.  He wore a red shirt and was the chief engineer.  The actor was missing a finger and they were careful to shoot his scenes so it would not show.  He had another actor put his hands on the transporter keys when they shot those scenes.

Mr. Doohan had many tv credits to his name.  In more recent years, he had a reoccurring role on The Bold & The Beautiful.  The part was not a big one and he only appeared as needed never joining the show as a full cast member.  He was also in the old tv show Peyton Place but was never given credit for his work even though he did get paid.

Xid, did you have to Google the answer, or did you know it from the Star Trek clues?

Star Trek clues, though the missing finger rang a bell, too.  I did have to look up his name as I couldn't remember it which is why my answer started with "Scotty".
