| I took a chance and bought two albums by the 77's lately from KaramKaram. I didn't know what to expect. I found that it is alt rock with some bluesy tones at times. It is an eclectic blend to say the least. It reminds me of 90's Steve Taylor and even the newest Dogs of PEACE album.
What are the best albums by them? What would you recommend?
I have these:
A Gold Field Of Radioactive Crows Tom Tom Blues The Late Greats - 2014 Summer Tour Mix _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. | The early stuff (Ping Pong Over The Abyss, All Fall Down, Seventy Sevens, Sticks & Stones) were more new wavish rock. Ping Pong Over The Abyss is probably my favorite of all of their albums. But they do have several excellent ones. "The Lust, The Flesh, The Eyes and The Pride of Life", "Do It For Love", "Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba", "Mercy Mercy", "Caught In An Unguarded Moment", "Falling Down A Hole" and "Ping Pong Over The Abyss" are some of the greatest songs, if you ask me. | |

| I had heard some of their early stuff and didn't care for it due to the "new wavish rock'. | |

| I really enjoy the 77s, and think if Island hadn't sunk all of its promotion into The Joshua Tree they would have had much more mainstream impact with that self-titled. I think you almost have to get that album. I too like Ping Pong--I checked it out of our youth music library probably a dozen times when I was in junior high. | |

| Absolutely! I got most of their regular albums. They released quite a few bonus, extra's, fanclubbish material. I'm missing quite a lot of those. My favorite are The 77's and Sticks And Stones, but it also depends on my mood. Their earlier stuff is more Wave-ish, but Pray Naked, Drowning With Land Inside and Tom Tom Blues are heavier and have lots of blues influences. Fun With Sound and Holy Ghost Building have more country folk influence. | |

| Great, creative band. Drowning With Land In Sight makes me wonder how they didn't make it bigger. | |

| I have most of their albums and agree with Driven- "Drowning" is phenomenal. I really love "88" too. But my fav of all is "Pray Naked" (also considered self titled as many C-bookstores couldn't handle the word "Naked") | |

| I'm a fan of the 77's (I have 88 on cassette) and just recently received the Kickstarter package for Drowning With Land In Sight that included the 2 disc set on CD, a T-shirt, and a digital download of the full album. They also included a live DVD of various shows from the Pray Naked and Drowning tours as a stretch goal bonus for reaching the funding goal of $30,000. Every backer who pledged at least $25 before shipping got the DVD regardless of pledge level. The DVD is awesome and runs for a total time of just over 4 hours. Watching it made me wish I had been able to see a few of the shows that were on it, especially the ones in Bushnell, IL (Cornerstone '92) and Hope Center Church in Concord, CA in '94. | |

| Funny how they got labeled New Wavish when really, after the first two they weren't New Wave at all and even All Fall Down is only partly NW. | |
