I heard this song from the secular band Enertia and I think it bears an uncanny resemblance to a Christian band (especially their first album).
This song was released on an album in 1997....about three years after the debut album from the Christian band I'm thinking of.....anyone know the band I'm thinking of?

I am not sure if I know you you are referring to. I hear pieces of Die Happy and maybe Detritus in this.

I was totally thinking of that first Die Happy album, musically it seemed nearly identical to me.

I was listening to early Jamie Rowe-era Guardian, and I was sure that I was listening to that Fear Not album. Same voice, guitar sound, the works.

Indeed both bands very similar in sound (especially that Guardian "Fire & Love" album).

One big difference between Guardian and Fear Not is in the drumming. With Guardian, there are some tasty fills and changes of patterns. With Fear Not, the drumming is very flat and almost lifeless. They could easily have been programmed at the time. The drummer just seemed to "phone in" his tracks. Listen to the album and see if you can hear it. It took a long time for me to notice how lifeless his performance was.

Very true, I hadn't quite realized that. On the other hand, the drum tone itself is very comparable.

The drums and guitar sounds are nearly identical as they both were produced by the Elefante brothers. They seemed to have a sound dialed in at their studio that worked for them. You can hear it with Guardian, Petra, Fear Not, and even with Halo. The tones are very similar. Throw in Bride's "Scarecrow Messiah" and you will hear it as well.
