Drums are done!!!!

I was in the studio today with Tim Burns (formerly known here as drumdude) who was working on the drums on the final two tracks for the blues album.  I still have to mix and master everything, but it is all in the can as they say. 

On this album, I have written the songs, played the guitars (rhythm and lead), did the bass,  recorded 99.9% of the vocals (you will hear sabidoo on one song), and some percussion work.  I play a mean cowbell!!!  Why did I do the leads myself?  If a more accomplished guitarist did them, then I could never play those solos live.  As it is, I could do a show with these songs as a simple 3 piece guitar/bass/drum trio like Glenn Kaiser Band or ZZ Top.  It feels good to know that this album is finally getting close to done.

What is sad is that I have enough tracks to do another, and now I have riffs starting that I can turn into more songs.  Apparently, I was a bluesman and just didn't know it.

These cigar box guitars have made playing fun again.  I like seeing what I can do with an instrument that I made and only has either 3 or 4 strings.

Me, either!  I've been working on this off and on for over a year.  It is time to get it finished and out there.

The drummer I was using yesterday just kept shaking his head while listening to the tracks.  I asked him why.  He said that it just wasn't what he was used to hearing from me.  He loved it mind you, but it was not what he was expecting. 

That's an even greater reason for a name change at this point.  I was going to use my first and last name and go with:  Chris Dickens & D'Bare Bones Band.  However, most people who know me call me "Big Chris".  So, I think I am going to use:  Big Chris & D'Bare Bones Band.  I could perform with a full band or just my cigar box guitars and a couple of "drums" played by my feet.  I could use a suitcase for a bass drum and my cajon for a snare.  That is about as bare bones as one could get, eh?

Using the name of my guitars in the "band" name also will help market them.  See the method to my madness now?  Mwahahahaha!!!!

Dude, I'm so glad you have found the joy in making music again.

Now that I am getting snowed in, maybe I will work on the mixing.

I like the name.

I was working on one song yesterday called "Punch In the Face".  I couldn't mix it.  Seems that I had forgotten to do a guitar solo.  I fixed that.

"Punch In The Face" is a very spiritual song.  LOL  It is a song about being angry at someone and really wanting to punch them in the face.  However, it does make a point to ask the Lord for help not too.  Every Christian has had someone that they'd like to do this to at some point.  I think we all can relate.
