It's time for my annual post looking for new Christian stoner doom metal (or at least some I don't know about). The bands I like are: Electric Wizard, Sleep, Weedeater, Elder... I don't care for some of their lyrics however, so I am always looking for Christian bands. I already have Starchild, Place of Skulls, and Goliath. They are very good, but I'm looking for more. Thanks in advance for your help and thoughts!

Unfortunately, most of the newer doom bands are death doom which, in my opinion, kills the atmosphere of doom. I usually end listening to bands like Forsaken, Nomad Son, Pylon, or Evangelist. The last stoner doom I bought would be The Skull's "For Those Which Are Asleep", although it's not a Christian band.

I highly recommend Under The Sun. They only have one album but it's very good.
If you know Place Of Skulls, I assume you know In-Graved?
Also keep an eye on Death Is Gain's doom project Warpriest. He's [slowly...] working on an EP/album. I've heard some songs from it and they're very good! Here's a Christmas song he released.

I think I would dig more doom if the vocals were a bit better. I dig the sound but often the vocals leave me totally flat. Having said that I cannot stand Death Doom...really wish the genre didn't exist. I also liked more than a few secular bands that fit in the "Stoner" category, but I have to confess that I haven't heard of a single Christian "Stoner" band.

All good suggestions, I actually do know Forsaken and Nomad Son and many of the others mentioned... there are a few here I need to check out though. I will look into it tonight when I have some free time. The problem I am running into I think is that I am specifically looking for the deep, fuzzy distortion sound with the guitars and the droning often slow Sabbath style riffs. Thanks, guys.

P.S. I wish DiG would hurry up with Warpriest, because I have heard the samples too and it does sound fantastic.

I cannot believe I forgot about Trog. I really wish Randy would make a new doom album.

Some older doom bands are: Seventh Angel and Paramaecium and Town Cryer. Maybe you like them.

Bump! Since Cydonius and I were talking all things doooooooooooooom, I figured we might as well do so in the proper spot so as to appease the mods.
My favorite Christian doom metal bands are:
Agonal - melodic doom/death Ashen Mortality - gothic doom/death Dalit - doom/death Ekklesiast - doom/death Faith - epic doom with folk influence Faithless Minutes Devoured - funeral doom/drone Implacable - funeral doom/death (I wish they released more than a couple demos...) In-Graved - traditional doom Last Chapter - epic doom Paramaecium - doom/death Place Of Skulls - traditional doom Sawol - doom/death (though their new stuff isn't doomy) Seventh Angel - doom/death (just their third album, first two are thrash) Stronghold - black/doom Under The Sun - traditional doom Virgin Black - gothic/symphonic, doom/death Warpriest - traditional doom
And I'm not sure if these are *technically* "Christian bands" but they've at least got Christian themes:
Dawn Of Anguish - epic doom Forsaken - epic doom Morphia - symphonic doom/death Nomad Son - epic doom
There's also this thead.

I can't get into Paramaecium and I have all their albums! I have a hard time finding Christian Doom at an affordable price. I know of a lot of them but only own so much. I really dig:
Place Of Skulls In-Graved Nomad Son Under The Sun Pylon Benson/Griffin (this is one DB album I can dig and it's cuz musically it's a beast of an album)

Another one I like a lot that I consider a Doom album but the band's other works aren't is Seventh Angel-The Dust Of Years.

^That Seventh Angel album is awesome. I am not a big fan of thrash but every once in a while I enjoy listening to their first two albums. But The Dust Of Years is just spectacular.

Oh man, Paramaecium is great! Their fourth album is only so-so to me but I think their first three are really good.
I haven't been able to get into Pylon though. Their half of the split with My Silent Wake is the only stuff I have of theirs and it doesn't really do anything for me. I've stayed away from David Benson stuff since so many others have had such troubles with making purchase from him and his vocals aren't really my thing. I love Victor Griffin's stuff though so maybe I should check it out...

Does Ted Kirkpatrick's Ode to a Roadkill fall into this category ?

I like the David Benson stuff. I've never had troubles with getting my merch from him.
I also like the Randy Rose stuff which is part stoner doom and part biker rock if you will. I really don't have an actual genre to toss him into. I just know it is doomy and I like it. LOL Occasionally I still play Starchild, too.
As far as the rest that has been mentioned here, I really don't get into doom. Its slow. It feels like it drags to me. And, I find some of the music to be depressing. I just don't get it. They are talented musicians, but I just don't seem to get the big deal. I have the In-Graved download. I played it a couple of times. I also had Place Of Skulls, but I just never got into those, either. I would have done the Benson/Griffith, but those songs were mostly just the ones David was going to do with Mick Rowe on Goliath. So, I already had versions of those I loved and didn't see a point in getting them again.

I didn't know that. I remember when Mick and him released some samples and then it disappeared. Never knew what happened with the project.

Never liked anything Mick was involved in, Victor on the other hand is pretty much the "Duke of Doom!"
