He must have been only MOSTLY dead. Yes because everybody knows that there is a big difference between "mostly dead" and "all dead". "Mostly dead" is "slightly alive". _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| When I turned 26, a friend of mine from church told me this: "Kerrick, when I turned 26, a friend told me this and so now I'm telling you. Up until 26, you're reaching your peak. And then you turn 26 and start dying." Hahaha such warm and encouraging words... | |

Something happened in my mid 30's and it's been a slow decline ever since. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| When people pray like this:
"Oh Lord, we just come to thank you God for just giving us this food to just nourish our bodies, Lord. And God, please just help us, Lord God, to just have the clarity God to just allow us, Lord, to just see your will, God."

| Haha this sinner must repent! Well you didn't say "just" thirty times so... I won't judge you TOO bad... Do people pray like that where you're from? It seems like a newer thing to ask God to JUST do this or JUST do that... I think it's akin to "like" or "um" where people feel the need to fill a verbal pause with something. I have to try really hard to not be distracted when people pray like that but instead focus on what they're actually praying for. | |

| I realize it's a way of being "humble" , but I've never read a prayer recorded in Scripture by God-fearing, chosen believers who use "just" over and over, nor kept saying "Lord" as if to keep His attention. Maybe we could take lessons from these prayers in the Bible.
(Not trying to be blasphemous, but making a funny point that Kerrick brought up:)
“This, then, is how you should (not) pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, Lord, we just recognize that your name, Lord, is just hallowed, Lord, may your kingdom just come Lord, and Lord, if your will would just be done Lord, on earth Lord, just as it is in heaven Lord. Lord if you would just give us today, Lord, just our daily bread Lord, to nourish our bodies. And Lord, just forgive us our debts Lord, and help us to just forgive our debtors Lord. Lord, if you'll just lead us not into temptation Lord, but Lord, just deliver us Lord from the evil one. Lord, Lord, for Yours is just the Kingdom Lord, just the power Lord, and just the glory Lord... for we just pray these things Lord in the Name of Jesus, Amen ’

| There are people in my church who pray that way all the time, and I used to let it annoy me. But now, I just accept that they pray their way, and I pray in my own way. Something like that shouldn't even be an issue between brethren. | |

| ^ I completely agree. I'm gonna start a thread on it as I think it may merit further discussion (I am guilty of this too... but it would be beneficial to examine our own prayer lives to see if we're JUST mimicking what we've heard in church...) | |

| I have been in several small groups and church meetings where people prayed that very same way. I think the "justs" and multiple uses of "Lord/God/Jesus/Father" are used as a brief place holder to give the person praying a few milliseconds to determine what to say next....and hopefully not ramble too much. Because, you know any prayer said out-loud (in a group) that doesn't last at least 4 minutes must not be very reverent or sincere. Often times people will not ask me to pray unless they are in a hurry, because my prayers are usually over in about 15-30 seconds at most. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... | I'm going to get on my soapbox for a minute and add some things to what I already said. I have seen so many of my Christian friends on Facebook (nobody here) mock people who pray like that. That bothers me. These same people mock their own brethren who are all over the place visually during worship. They make fun of folks who raise their hands in worship, pray at the altar, or do other things. That also bothers me. And I have to trust the Holy Spirit to keep me accountable, lest I wind up judging those who are judgmental. That also goes for many on "other" boards who rip the "KJV only/ rock music is the devil" folks to shreds. I expect that stuff from the unsaved. I am appalled that my brethren in the faith are just as guilty.
Rant over.

| No, that's GOOD Samson ! I like your post, very good points made. I made a thread for this discussion cuz I knew there would be many with different thoughts, and yours is a good thought. My response to it, besides it being true, is that my angle with this method of praying needs to be discussed - not belittled or trashed, but discussed. I did post a silly prayer parody, but that is merely an exaggerated example to make light of this prayer style, not to trash on those who pray this way. I don't think it's right or healthy to trash on anyone, and your post makes me think harder about what's appropriate and what's not... despite it being parody. | |

| Just FYI, my intent wasn't to mock people who pray like that (well ok, maybe just a little bit). But I will say prayers said in that fashion do not seem at all sincere to me (maybe that's my problem). What they look like to me is someone "aping" somebody else's "style" (for lack of a better term) of prayer..and I just don't understand that at all.
I will copy my comments over to the appropriate thread so as not to derail this one any further. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."
