| A while back I had a thread where we posted classic old sayings from the zoot suit days (Daddio) thru the 60s (Far Out) just for fun.
This thread is for all the sayings that NEED TO STOP ! Sayings from modern times that are annoying (biatch) and sayings that have just been OVERDONE to death ("Are you working hard, or hardly working?")
Let's hear some sayings YOU'RE sick to death of:

| One I hate is the one used by so many pathetic American teenagers who think their life is SOOoo bad:
FML
oy, try living in a poverty stricken area for a while and get off your $600 cell phone and you'll start realizing how good your life really was !

| One that gets on my nerves at work is when the girls say "I know, right ??" (there's a certain tone to use when you read that - has to be in an excited "I agree" manner) | |

"I know, right ??" My 20 year old daughter still does this one (it's become a reflex for her), my wife & I will mock say it on occasion...but whenever I do it I try to use my best valley girl accent and throw in some "gag me with a spoon" or "to-tally" _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| My personal pet peeve is "builds to a crescendo." As a music person, I know that crescendo refers to the process of getting louder. Sooooo, to build to a crescendo literally means to build to a point where you are starting to get louder OR you are building to a point where you are ready to start building.
Two others: using "ironic" to mean "coincidental" (as in "ironically, when the sun is shining it feels warmer) and using "literally" to mean "figuratively" (for instance, "I have such a bad headache my head is literally exploding.")

| Good ones !
Gary: LOL Both of my kids went through a "Like" stage. They'd say LIKE every other word. So I would repeat them - whenever they'd say "like" I would say "like", until they got so sick of me doing that, they quit saying it. Touche.

Not for us geocachers! Swag is just the stuff we find inside a cache. Along these lines, can we just ditch all of the business/marketing terminology being used for an individual? You are changing your hairstyle and wardrobe, you are not updating your brand. You are asking your friends' opinions, you are not focus grouping. Oh, the whole social media/texting language as spoken language--gotta go. Don't say "O.M.G." Don't say "hashtag". I'm also pretty sure we should quit referring to any scandal as whatever-gate. That's enough for now. Except "cray-cray" and "vacay"--those have to go too.

| I tell my wife we are the land of the slogan and buzzwords. Jobs resort to this all the time lately and in my mind it's lazy. I used to want to scream when i'd hear, paradigm shift or empowerment when nothing really changed. As for social sayings, I work with teen boys and they speak text at times and it's actually scary. LOL isn't a way to express yourself when talking. | |

I used to say "Fo Sho" back in the 70s and 80s... but this "shizzle" stuff is just goofy

My wife went nuts watching the NCAA tournament every time an announcer talked about something as "a man's shot" or that someone was playing like a man. She decided to start replacing the word "man" with "pickle". We had a lot of fun with that.

| Ok G/F, apparently you have hit a nerve with me here because every blasted time I come to this thread I just get irritated at something else I've heard. This time it is all the male-specific words that people have invented to describe stuff that have been commonly associated with women. Things like "manny" and "murse" and "manscaping". | |

| I just bopped over to the random ramblings thread and saw a post with a tired, old phrase: "Who woulda thunk it." I'm not going to say who posted it, so don't worry Driven, your secret is safe. edit: Oops! | |
