17 years ago today the most beautiful and intelligent woman I've ever known took my hand in Holy Matrimony. In the presence of our family and friends and the God Who designed marriage, she promised to love me through good or bad times, during the strong and healthy or sick and disabled; She promised to love me unconditionally as God loves His own- Lisa has stayed true to her promises to me since that day.

As I am unworthy of God's love, I am also unworthy of her love.

17 years ago today, I promised to love her as Christ loves His Bride and died for them. People attribute that Bible verse to the fact that Jesus died for the Church, but never realize that it also refers to how Jesus TREATED His "Bride" the entire time He was here in the flesh - He put them first, He took care of them, met their needs, and guided them in the correct path that was best for them. I have kept that promise to the best of my fallen human abilities.

I am a better man because of Lisa, and I see God's unconditional love through her every day - I thank God for her and pray that I will always be a husband she can be proud of and thankful for.

Happy Anniversary to my amazing wife, Lisa.

That is really cool G/F. One thing so many husbands fail to do, including myself for so many years, is affirm (Google: "state as a fact; assert strongly and publicly.") their love for their wife.

If you only KNEW....

(there's a saying on her side of the family that's pretty funny - when someone has to put up with someone who's a PITA, they say of that person "Straight to Heaven" - implying that the person is such a saint for putting up with the Pain In The Arse for so many years that they'll have a guaranteed ticket Straight to Heaven... so even though Lisa and I are believers and take that joke with a grain of salt, we still use it for humor's sake - And my wife living with me all these years: Straight to Heaven !!)  Laughing

ONLY 17 years?  Newlyweds!  Wait until you hit that quarter of a century mark!  I've been married way more than half my life!

I think it's awesome to hear that someone in my age group is still married to their 1st wife - really, it's getting more and more rare to hear that.

I was "verbally" engaged to my HS sweetheart, we dated for a little over 2 years and when I came to faith at 19, we couldn't make it work after that.

Later I met another HS gal who had a crush on me in when we were in school... We dated for a few months and then we got married with intentions to make it work for life - I was 22 (she was 19 at the time).

Looking back at those relationships (and the failed marriage) it's SO obvious, I was a child and SO not ready for all that. Despite those "failures", I learned from them, and they made me a better husband for Lisa. We met in '96 and were married in '97.
So I'm rather thankful for the lessons and maturing I developed from those previous relationships. And really, we never stop growing and learning as we go into each decade of marriage... it's on-going.
