I never really got into them growing up except for comics based on metal bands back in the 80's. I did however like Groo The Wanderer and I'd pick that one up a few times a month. But I was never into the more well known ones like Spider Man. Just wasn't my scene.

However I've kind of started to get interested in them because of my son Drew. He's big on any super hero. I wish he didn't like Green Lantern though. But he's into stuff like Batman, Super Man, Spider Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man etc... We've got a comic book store near us that we go to once or twice a month. Drew has built up a pretty decent collection. I went thru my old stuff and gave him some old Groo comics. I also found an old Alice Cooper Last Temptation comic and an Ozzy comic. I'm reluctant to give him the Ozzy comic cuz of F-words in it. I've got that one hidden downstairs. I'm also hoping to find my old Calvin & Hobbes books to give him. Lately we have been buying the Sunday Paper so he can read the comics. He's made a scrap book from them. Its a pretty cool hobby to have. Anyone else on here into comics? And what are your favorites?

I was BIG into comics growing up. My collection is still at mom & dad's protected in boxes and bagged. I used to like what we called "12 centers". I would look for anything that had a cover price of 12 cents on the cover. The first one I bought was Iron Man #4. I probably have over 10,000 comics and bought a lot of Spiderman, Capt. America and Hulk. In the 80's I bought all of the Rock N Roll comics too.

I also had this and many many more (I think I should still have most of them).

This was another cool one I had:

Shortly after we got married I had to sell some when we were short on money. I hated selling them but I did what I had to do ya know? I also had Spiderman 122 the death of the Green Goblin. A friend had two and gave me one.

Here was one that I sold, but it had a different cover. I think it was a foil type cover.

I don't know what any of them are worth and I know today it is really hard to get rid of them. People just don't buy them anymore. I have considering selling the "whole lot" before. In fact I talked to my dad about it last year and he asked if I would want to go thru them first and pick out any I wanted. I said no because it would only make me want them all. But I told him that if I did sell them he needed to take out Iron Man #4 for me to keep. I have not bought a comic in over 20 years. Thanks for reminding me about them I have given them little thought...... I also have TONS of vintage "Marvel Tales", Lois Lane (they were cheap!), Superboy and many others from "the golden age of comics".

I also had this and many others in the series. I think at one time this one sold for big bucks and I have a first print run of it.

This was around the time I stopped buying comics. I had become bored with Hulk and Capt America but would occasionally still pick up Spiderman for Todd McFarlane's awesome artwork. His stuff reminded me of Steve Ditko and had such a classic look to it.

I never was one for comic books, probably since I thought the dialogue cheesy, but I always enjoyed classic comic strips like Garfield (the new ones are a lot less interesting than the old ones), Calvin and Hobbes, and the like.

Huge fan/collector.

Got a bunch of the old 12 cent ones too, Superboy/man, Spidey, Fantastic 4, Xmen...
I have a ton of newer graphic novel collections. Spiderman was and always will be my fav. Got the entire House of M collection.
But my favorite story and collection I have is the Marvel Civil War. I've read and re-read it multiple times and really think they have incredible MOVIE material in that story.
Got a bunch of Christian comics too - unfortunately some have great artwork, but bad writing (or like in the case of Jack Chick, bad reputation and conspiracy nut too).

I also have an extensive collection of MAD magazine going back to the 1950s, as well as a few Crazy, Cracked, Sick and some other oddball parody comics.

I too sold off many of the older 10 cent ones that were worth quite a bit and WISH I had those back today... oh well.

I'm familiar with Chick Publications. Never liked them because I've found them to be very sensational and over the top. But are there some good Christian Comics out there that would be appropriate for an 11 year old that's into super heroes?

I used to read them as a kid.  I'd read them until the covers fell off.  Then, my dad would clean house and throw them away.  I never thought that they could be worth something.  I just read them.

I probably haven't read more than two or three since I was 10.

11 year old... I'm thinking this series I bought my son would be "11" appropriate (I still have them cuz at 20 years old, he's obviously grown out of them).  They're a pretty cool story with some great characters. I haven't read them in probably 5+ years, so I can't remember. But they are a Christian published comic series for that age range. Are you looking for some for your kid ? or ?
Lemme know. If you're in the states, I can mail them to you for free.

I wasn't big into comics but I had nearly a dozen of the first Star Wars comics, and I also really liked the Groo the Wanderer comics.

OH !! I totally have a stack of those !! GROO was the best !!!
Having grown up with MAD magazine, I always loved Sergio Aragones cartoons, so when I found out he began a comic book series called Groo the Wanderer, I bought them up !  I totally love that kind of humor.
I keep trying to fill in the gaps of the few that I'm missing. I'd love to complete my collection of Groo !

Some of Sergio's best work was the tiny little doodles in the margins of some of the Mad stories/strips.

Couldn't sell any of it....because I gave it all away close to 20 years ago.

Well you are quite a character, so you would fit very well in a comic book discussion!

While I am familiar with quite a bit of comics and read a bit growing up,I never really collected any. That is except for the Death of Superman era. That and the Funeral for a Friend ,Reign of the Supermen and onto the Return of Superman. After that I fell out of it. I did however pick up a few of Supes that dealt with an alternate time line and even vs. Aliens. I also got the 2 part book series that talk about the origin of Doomsday.

I think I have a few for Batman too, need to look those up. I do have an old G.I Joe and even Spider-man 2099 somewhere.
