| Sons of Deity is a recent discovery I came across at CD Baby. Musically, I hear a definite eighties influence, ranging from AOR & melodic rock (sort of like Sweet Crystal & Line Of Fire) to melodic metal/hard rock (think Liberty N' Justice & Guardian) to some power/progressive elements (Sacred Warrior).
The vocalist has talent in taking a varied approach, while the guitar work hints at times of Tony Palacios.
Following is the link to the samples at CD Baby: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/sonsofdeity
I hope to have a review online within the next week or two.

| Drat, I can't listen to music samples at cdbaby (or amazon) on my phone. I will certainly check this out later though. Sounds like something I might really like. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Not bad. I will have to listen again when I am not tired, though, to see if I would want this. If it is cheap enough at Emusic.com, I might just download it. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/ | |

| I hear the 80's influence indeed on this. The vocalist seems to be trying to copy Geoff Tate of Queensryche while fronting a much more melodic AOR band. I don't think I'll order the CD, but I might download it from Emusic if I can score it cheap.
Andy, why the "strongly worded" review of King James? _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/

| Well, the new King James is more of a re-record project than an album of all new material. It only features three new songs. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but there has to be a reason to re-record older material, which is not present with "Maximus". I always felt that the old King James songs on the first album sounded just fine and there was no reason to re-record them. Plus the group did not announce that "Maximus" is a re-record album until just before it was released.
Perhaps I am overreacting, but I was expecting an album of mostly new material and what we get instead is a 'mish-mash' of old and new songs with some throwaway instrumentals added to fill things out. I felt that maybe the group could have put more thought into the project and given its fan base more than eight full length songs in the process.
But I would like to point out that the performance and production are excellent and if someone has not previously heard King James then "Maximus" is a good place to start. Long term fans, however, might be a bit disappointed. If I am out of line here then please let me know.

| I think you are spot on with your assessment of the new King james. I think the band would have done better to rlease a 5 song EP with the new vocal tracks and the longer instrumental. _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| I have to agree also with your assessment, Andy. To be honest, I don't like a couple of the new songs and don't think they fit well with that older material.

| I think staybrite is so right. "Maximus"is not the CD of King James with all new songs. It's a re-record of older stuff with 3 new songs.
I was expecting a King James album with new songs too. Now, I'm curious to read the review of Andy about "Maximus".
