This brings up a great thought..we are in the age group that lived the old way and the newer ways. I am realizing that much of the old way and even some of the old technologies is better. |

| Were you ever able to solve the Rubik’s Cube (without breaking it) ? Never could figure the stupid thing out, even bought a book and that didn't help either ! Where were you when you heard Elvis died ? I was in the car with my mom, I remember it affected her as if she heard a family member died.
Where were you when you heard Reagan was shot ? I was in school. The teacher was all upset and we were all like "whatever"
What was your first record/cassette/8-Track that you could call your own ? First record: Mary Poppins (still have it- thing's wrecked!), Cassette: Got my 1st three for Christmas one year- Kiss-Creatures of the Night, Van Halen-Diver Down, Peter Schilling-Error in the System

Did your family own a laserdisc player ? Although we were very lower middle class, my mom got a great deal on one and we rented movies on laserdisc before VHS rose to power. Owned a few, like Star Wars and Airplane.
When did you get your first VCR ? Original top loading boat anchor - probably around 1984
Which movies were in your family’s VHS collection ? Everything ! Cuz my mom bought blank VHS tapes and recorded every movie off tv and eventually got a 2nd cheap vcr and recorded tons of rented movies. Yes, my mom, the original pirate.

Where were you when you heard Elvis died ? Don't remember....

When did you get your first VCR ? 1985 or 86
Which movies were in your family’s VHS collection ? Nothing store bought, just half a dozen or more pirated from television. I used to record Night Flight on Saturday nights (pre MTV music video program) it was on for like 2 or 3 hours and I would record it when I wasn't home.
When did you get your first microwave ? Prolly around 1982-3
Favorite Twilight Zone episode ? Can't remember what it was called but it was the one where they tried to do surgery on this girl to correct her horribly terrible looks and they just couldn't fix her. All the doctors and nurses were covered in masks all the time and you couldn't see them. When they finally took the bandages off the girl she was beautiful but everyone was so upset because she was still "ugly". Then they showed the medical personally and they had these horribly angular features.
What was your very first concert ever (that you can remember) ? Ratt opened for Bon Jovi, Bon Jovi had just released their first album.
Choose what you watched the most: The Dukes of Hazzard, M*A*S*H, Mork & Mindy, ALF, The A Team, Family Ties, Cosby Show ? All of the above.

Who had the most influence on the music you listened to in the 70s/80s:Your siblings, parents, Casey kasem, or MTV ? My friends and "The Metal Shop" radio program (in the 80's). In the 70's it was the older kids in my neighborhood and my baby sitter who loved Wolf Man Jack (70's radio dj)!
How many hours a week did you watch MTV ? Not very often because we didn't have MTV at my house. Caught an hour or so a week at my friends house.
Which of these did you have: Comic Books, Mad Magazines, Hot Wheels, Star Wars Cards, Star Wars Action Figures, GI Joe, Lincoln Logs, Stretch Arm Strong, Slinky, Whee-lo, Big Wheel, BMX bicycle, Schwinn with the banana seat and huge handlebars, Simon game, Rockem Sockem Robots, Slime, Etch-A-Sketch, Shrinky Dinks, Light Bright ? I had all of that expect the Simon game.
What other great memories do you have from the 70s and 80s ? Legos, skateboarding, riding bicycles with the guys, inner-tubing down the river in the summer, catching june-bugs in the fall (well at least when I lived in Germany) _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| Were you ever able to solve the Rubik’s Cube (without breaking it) ? No. I was able, however, to work The Missing Link. I always have to be different than everyone else.
Where were you when you heard Elvis died ? Probably at school? I was only 7 at the time, so I don't remember.
Where were you when you heard Reagan was shot ? Again, probably at school. I wasn't much into "current events" so I don't remember it much.
What was your first record/cassette/8-Track that you could call your own ? My first cassette ever was the soundtrack to "Grease". It is one of the few secular projects I still own due to nostalgic reasons.
Choose what you played the most: Pac-Man, Asteroids, Donkey Kong, or Galaga ? Space Invaders was my favorite. But, like my brother, we also played a lot of Ms. Pac-Man.
Did your family own a laserdisc player ? Never. We had a VCR, though.
When did you get your first VCR ? Early 80s. The thing was HUGE and the remote was attached by a cable!
Which movies were in your family’s VHS collection ? None. They were too expensive, so we rented. I actually had an account at a video store long before my parents. When I married and moved out, my dad continued to use my account (with my blessing) until that little store closed.
When did you get your first microwave ? Early 80s, I think.
Favorite Twilight Zone episode ? I liked the Twilight Zone show, but only saw it occasionally in syndicated reruns. So, it didn't make much of an impression. Now Star Trek, that's a different story even though I only saw it through syndication as well.
What was your very first concert ever (that you can remember) ? My first concert was AC/DC with Yngwie Malmsteen opening. The show was at Nashville's Municpal Auditorium.
Choose what you watched the most: The Dukes of Hazzard, M*A*S*H, Mork & Mindy, ALF, The A Team, Family Ties, Cosby Show ? Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider!
Did you own an original Hacky Sack, or one of those K-Mart generic versions ? I had never heard of one until the 90s. We lived in a rural community where people played with footballs and baseballs--not bean bags.
Who had the most influence on the music you listened to in the 70s/80s:Your siblings, parents, Casey kasem, or MTV ? My dad until my teen years. Then, my best friend William (aka Boofel) got me into AC/DC and Twisted Sister. After that, I've been a rocker ever since. Thanks, Boofel!
How many hours a week did you watch MTV ? None. We didn't have cable until after I moved out of the house.
Which of these did you have: Comic Books, Mad Magazines, Hot Wheels, Star Wars Cards, Star Wars Action Figures, GI Joe, Lincoln Logs, Stretch Arm Strong, Slinky, Whee-lo, Big Wheel, BMX bicycle, Schwinn with the banana seat and huge handlebars, Simon game, Rockem Sockem Robots, Slime, Etch-A-Sketch, Shrinky Dinks, Light Bright ? I had a few comics, but they usually fell apart and were thrown away due to being read. I had tons of Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. I had some Star Wars figures, a Slinky (lame), a Whee-lo, etc. My favorite was Hot Wheels cars.
What other great memories do you have from the 70s and 80s ? Swimming in the creek with my brother and other friends, live ammo BB gun fights with sabidoo, meeting my future wife at a party, endless hours of bike riding, being able to play outside even in the dark without fear of being snatched, going to church and staying overnight with my Grandma, listening to music and doing stupid stuff with Boofel, and practicing with my first bass in my bedroom with my cassettes through an old amp my dad gave me. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/

| Not at all. It was a Cort bass--a cheapo brand that Sears used to keep in their catalogs. I kept it until I bought my first real bass in 1990--a Fender Precision. It got ruined in a house fire, but I managed to trade it for a Peavey bass. I didn't like that one and traded it in on a new Fender Squire. I kept that for a few months. I bought a 5 string Fender Precision Jazz bass (American made) in 1992. I still have that 5 string Fender to this day. It still looks and plays like a new one even though it is now 20 years old. _________________ I might have decided, or maybe not, that I should or shouldn't, depending on the issue or non-issue, to possibly share or not share, any thoughts, opinions, or facts (that might not be deemed factual by some), due to possible fear of any misinterpretation or retribution. https://christianhardmusic.niceboard.com/ | |

When did you get your first VCR ? I'd guess about 82
Which movies were in your family’s VHS collection ? None. Just taped stuff off TV

Who had the most influence on the music you listened to in the 70s/80s:Your siblings, parents, Casey kasem, or MTV ? None of the above. Friend who pointed me to a station when I got my stereo in 7th grade. Sadly a Top 40 station, but a few years later I discovered real radio on my own.

Be honest, you still have the ABBA, right?
...you can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life... Watch that girl, diggin' the Dancing Queen... No. But in all honesty I wish I did. I understand. Abba's one of my guilty pleasures.

| I remember Sambo's. But they used to have a little black boy and tiger for their mascot. Caused quite a bit of controversy until the changed in the late 70's (or early 80's) _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."
