The link below will take you to a website that has the statistics of how many people live here in Watertown, what the average home worth is, how much people make on average, and how the residents here are broken down by ethnicity. Check it out!

Pretty trippy site ! I did mine too:

http://www.city-data.com/city/Yucca-Valley-California.html

(I think the ethnicity pie is off though... we have a lot more "non-whites" than it says)

Here's mine:
http://www.city-data.com/zips/41230.html

This data isn't right for my town though. It says that the current population is 13,029 and in 2000 it was 11,283. But the results of the 2000 census for Louisa said the population was around 2,000 and I'm pretty sure we didn't experience a 700% growth in population over the last 10 years...

It could be correct because it is based on zip code--not just the city limits. It is probably figuring in everyone who receives mail through your post office.

Does it include undocumented "non-whites"....that might have something to do with it.

My lovely little village.

http://www.city-data.com/city/Orting-Washington.html

It looks like most of us live in relatively small towns (with G/F & DBF's towns topping out of 20,000).

Good point. Maybe.

What Hardkore said is interesting about his town. Anyone else have any tidbits of cool trivia about their area ?

We have a few stars living right in our town here -no one BIG, but still kind of cool to know them and talk to them. Working in pharmacies here, I've sold drugs to locals such as Don Calfa (Weekend at Bernies, etc) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0129883/ Also the acclaimed jazz singer Nancy Wilson http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0930583/ and Eric Burdon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYA061KR0Uk&feature=related and also Drew Barrymore's Dad.

Several others, I just can't think of them right now.

Ahhhh good point! That's probably about right then. That just goes to show how many hill dwellers we have in my county! Haha! (I having been one myself for about 12 years lol)

We even have our own song and video by the lesser known band The California Kelts (personal friends of mine)

(for those of you who like the Irish stuff- Flogging Molly, Flatfoot 56, Dropkick Murphys)

And for the bigger names, Robert Plant did the song "29 Palms" after a town which is about 10 miles from Yucca (albeit this is a VERY strange video, some of it was filmed in 29 palms and surrounding areas)

And let's not forget The Joshua Tree by U2, name inspired after the band stayed in Joshua Tree (5 miles from us).

Watertown, TN has become sort of the music video capital of small towns. Here is an incomplete listing of music videos shot here. You'll see names like Tom T. Hall and even Justin Bieber listed:

  • In 1997, songwriter Tom T. Hall immortalized the city in a song titled appropriately, "Watertown, Tennessee".[8]
  • Country singer Garth Brooks filmed a Dr Pepper television commercial and his "Wrapped Up In You" music video on the town square in 2001.[9]
  • The video for the song "Boondocks" by the band Little Big Town was filmed in Watertown and used locals for the video.[citation needed]
  • The video for the song "Would You Go with Me" by Josh Turner was shot in an abandoned farmhouse in Watertown.[citation needed]
  • Portions of the music video for the song "Red High Heels" by Kellie Pickler was shot at Robinson Stadium, the Watertown High School football field.[10]
  • The video for the song "One Less Lonely Girl" by teen singer Justin Bieber was filmed in and around the town's public square.[citation needed]
  • A portion of the George Strait movie "Pure Country Gift" was filmed in Watertown in 2009.[citation needed]
  • Watertown is the home of the americana band "Nashville Rash".[citation needed]
  • The music video for "Not That Far Away" by country singer Jennette McCurdy was shot around the main street of Watertown.

On top of these, I know of two movies that were shot here. One was called Charlie's War. The other was called "Billy...the Early Years". Both used locals as extras. I was even in the "Billy" movie, but not in the scenes around Watertown. I actually got to go to Nashville, got a free lunch, and got paid $50. That was cool!

Actually, I had to Google it! Oddly, there was a Wikipedia article about our town with that info.

I don't think we have any notable celebrities, but we are one of the oldest incorporated towns in our area (since 1889, thats pretty old for a western town). So some of our early residents had to abandon their homes to escape attack from Indians (excuse me, Native Americans).

We are also noted for having an elaborate Lahar warning system (they sound like old air-raid sirens). We live in the path of a large (and beautiful) moutain/volcano, that on occasion threatens to send millions of gallons water and mud through our little valley community in as little as 30 minutes. (oh joy)

The cool people of Pembroke:

  • Wayne Rostad, Canadian songwriter, singer, story teller, spent his youth in Pembroke.
  • Jason Blaine, a country singer who was born and raised in Pembroke
  • Rower/kayaker Sarah Boudens, who participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, is a Pembroke native.
  • Bruce Cockburn spent his childhood on a farm near Pembroke.
  • Pembroke is the birthplace of comedian Tom Green, although Green's family subsequently moved to Ottawa.
  • Paul Joseph James Martin also known as Paul Martin, Sr., noted lawyer, politician and father of former Prime Minister Paul Martin was raised in Pembroke.
  • The editor-in-chief of First Things, the Reverend Father Richard John Neuhaus, was born in Pembroke.
  • Pembroke boasts three NHL Hall of Fame hockey players: Frank Nighbor, who was nicknamed "The Pembroke Peach," Harry Cameron and Hugh Lehman.
  • Donald Williamson was raised in Pembroke, and was a hockey player on the 1955-1956 undefeated Clarkson University college hockey team. Williamson was one of the founders of the Granite State Hockey League and is in the New Hampshire Hockey Hall of Fame.

What's more, the Pembroke Lumber Kings hockey team has won the CJHL tournament for the last five years. One of their star players just graduated and, IIRC, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightnings.

We have a few things to brag about here:

- Boyhood home of Billy The Kid

- Some claim this area is the original site for the Seven Cities of Cibola. No lie:

Another truth about my town, Billy Ray Cyrus was born and raised in Flatwoods, KY about 30-45 minutes from here. Also, he dated one of my college professors before he became famous...and she broke up with him. Fail.
