| I noticed a several times that when I put a brand new CD in the CD player of my computer the CD is not playing. While when I put the CD in the CD player I can listen to the CD. It seems some CDs won't play in a CD player of the computer. Do you have the same? What can be the reason of this? | |

| There are also other CD protection systems in place. I have a couple of discs from Italy that won't play on a computer either. There are ways around some of the software, but not worth the hastle really. Just listen to them in a CD player and all will be well. | |

They still probably have a copy protection software encoded on them. They will not allow a computer to read them, that way they cannot be copied. The software has caused a lot of problems for manufacturers that tried it. If you use Google and type in a search for "cd copy protection bypass", you will probably find a way to get it to play in your computer. Unless you want to rip it to MP3's, or are trying to burn the disc, it probably won't be worth the hastle though.

| I purchased a software called AnyDVD. It's main function is to circumvent the copy protection on DVDs...I don't use it for that because I collect DVDs. But it also prevents the DRM and rootkits on music CDs from loading, which is why I purchased it. If I buy a CD then it belongs to me, and no company is going to dictate to me on which equipment I am allowed to play my purchased CD. | |

| I haven't run across a CD yet I couldn't rip though my NEC drive seems to be much more finicky so I've been putting everything in the Sony drive.
Could it also be your CD drive is old or can't handle audio CDs with data tracks also? Or maybe just doesn't autoplay if there's a data track? _________________ "If you are not concerned about your neighbor's salvation, you should be concerned about your own."

| I can't say that I've ever had a CD that would not play on the computer. I know my truck stereo doesn't like discs with extra data layers. It won't play Pillar's newest, so I just burned a copy of it for the truck. | I use an older CD player for the computer. My computer CD player won't play Red.
My son has a new Apple laptop and we tried to play the Red CD in his laptop. The CD started to play music without any problem. Maybe it's a Microsoft problem?
It's not possible to burn a CD-R because what I see is all except music.
Try to see if I can play the CD of Red in the car too. If not I have "computer CDs" and "CD player CDs."

| It's likely a hardware (drive) problem from what you describe. _________________ "If you are not concerned about your neighbor's salvation, you should be concerned about your own."
