Can't argue with any of that....but I did just put in my preorder. 

The disc itself is only $10...which I think is fine for an EP.  But you add in $3 for s&h and another $0.99 as a fee to the online store who does the order processing and now it's starting to look more like the price for a full-length album.
If 4 of the 5 tracks are really strong I won't be unhappy.  I've paid $15 for a 30+ track double album just to find out half or more of it was crap (at least with regards to recording quality).  I don't expect that will be the case with the new Fear Not.

Fear Not shipped out today

I got my notice about that, too!

I'm going to wait a bit.

I got my CD of this in the mail today!

Still haven't got mine, hope it didn't end up somewhere else. Not sure if I have a tracking number or not I'll look and see

I received mine and have played it once.  Overall, I do like it.  But, don't expect classic Fear Not.  Oh, you'll hear the similar leads and some of the crunchy guitars.  There is also the modern rock vibe going on at the same time that works with the new lead singer.  The drumming is a bit improved as the first album almost sounds programmed to me with very few fills.  The sound is huge, and lyrically this is good stuff.  It isn't classic Christian metal with the in your face preaching approach, but you will get what the songs are about pretty easily while still being a bit poetic.

I would predict that this record will receive about 50/50 fanfare from the fans.  What I mean is this:  about half will love it.  The mixture of modern rock with the classic sound will turn off some fans.  Some will say they like it despite the changes.  I fall into the latter camp even if I were hoping for something more akin to their debut.

I'm in a mood that I wonder if I have to order new CDs.
What now?

My CD came in the mail yesterday, but I probably won't get a chance to listen to it until this weekend.

Mine still hasn't arrived. When I tracked it yesterday it was in Pensacola (100 miles away). When I tried to track it this morning it said "We're sorry our tracking app is not functioning at this time". Maybe it will be here today.

Oh man, how frustrating!

I am giving it a second spin right now.

Mine finally arrived. Listened this morn. It's quick with only 5 songs. It's done well, produced well but it just isn't my thing. I'll give it many more listens but then it will probably be shelved and never played again.

Your feedback confirms what I suspected. It sounds like it's good but not the style people were expecting.

I finally listened to it this morning.  I have to say I rather dig it.  It certainly isn't much like the original Fear Not release from nearly 30 years ago.  It's considerably more modern sounding, but still rocks and doesn't sound like most of the whiny drivel most modern bands are putting out.  So if you go into listening to it with that expectation you might actually like it....but it ain't old school Fear Not.

I wish bands would change their name when they change their sound this much. Just my dumb opinion though, they can do what they want.

I am in the "I dig it" camp, too.  I hear the modern rock stuff and I hear moments that throw back to the original lineup/sound.  I'd love a full length in this style now.  If they were to do that, then the new sound would actually have more songs available and perhaps people could embrace this newer rendition.

As I said before, I expect the fans to be split 50/50 on this on the love it/hate it scale.

I don't hate it but I thought it's well done. Nice music mix, bass, guitars and drums are all the right levels. They sound like a seasoned band. But with that said this isn't my style. Will I buy more if they release more? If it sounds like this then probably not. Not a bad thing just not my thing.

Naw, I'll keep it. Have played it 5 or 6 times. I really like the second track. And it was a bit pricey for an EP. So even if I don't play it past the end of March it will be a nice addition to the collection.

When I saw your post I thought about never posting again so I would always be at 2112. But then people might wonder what happened to me! (Or maybe not?)

The more I listen to this the more I love it.  No, it isn't classic Fear Not, but it does have elements of it.  It also shows that the band still has a few tricks.  With the new singer, the lower tuned guitars work well.  My main problem with it, as with all EPs, is that it is just too short!  They need to get to work ASAP on a full length!!!

I like it... for some reason reminds me of Black Label Society...

After several listens I have to say I like it. It just isn't what I wanted. Let me give an example: In 1990 it was announced that Styx was reforming but without Tommy Shaw. They had a new guitarist and vocalist but the original vocalist, Dennis DeYoung, was still there. It was rumored that "Edge Of The Century" would be a throw back to the Equinox days from 1975. When it came out I picked it up on release day. When I listened to it it was very ballad heavy and modern sounding for the time. I liked it (and still do) but it isn't what I wanted. I wanted a Styx album with the classic 70's sound. And that didn't happen until 2017 when they released "The Mission" which was a trip back in time to the classic Styx sound. They even hyped it that it could've easily been the follow up to 1978's Pieces Of Eight. I was thrilled! Excellent Styx album!

So while I like the new EP I hold out hope that a full album will come along with some elements of the first album.
