| We have always considered this a no big deal holiday but we have really been giving it some thought this year. Alot of Christians participate while alot of churches hold "Fall" partys or whatever. After really reading scripture we are thinking maybe its better for us to just ignore it...don't make an issue of it or condemn anyone else but just simply ignore it. Oct. 31st is just another day.
What does everyone else think? |

| We take our son to fall fests and trunk-or-treats... I guess for us it's about the motive behind it. We don't celebrate death and goblins and witches and so forth. He's DJ Lance Rock this year. | |

| I hate Halloween. Not cuz of it's origins, or any of the satanic, druid crap... I just hate being bothered. If you don't buy candy and give it to every little twerp that comes to your door, then you're worried that someone's gonna egg your house or TP it.
I hate Halloween. Leave me alone ! Bah Humbug !!

| I understand some of the druidic/pagan backgrounds behind some of the "harvest period" festivals but what I find funny is they are have all culminated (is that a word) on a western holiday that is named after a religious (albeit Catholic) holiday. Halloween is a derivation of the term "All Hallows Eve" which is the evening before "All Saints Day". All Saints Day is a Catholic holiday to celebrate the feast of all the saints that don't already have their own feast days.
Interesting reading, if you want to check it out...but not at all in keeping with the bible (not to disrespect my Catholic friends).

| I find the whole issue of Halloween very interesting in regards to the UK and USA. In the USA it seems like most Christians think it's fine. In the UK most Christians think it's bad.
Personally I don't like it as: 1 - Trick Or Treat scares a number of people witless, and that's never a good thing. 2 - They always put lots of horror movies on TV, which ain't beneficial. 3 - I don't think getting involved in stuff that's not nice is helpful to my Christian walk.
These are the reasons that I don't like it and won't partake.

| For my part, I lived in a kinda small neighbourhood when I was young enough to go trick-or-treating, so we just did the block and the main road nearby. Because there weren't many houses, there wasn't much candy so I didn't really have too much fun T-or-Ting.
What Staybrite posted is pretty cool… I kinda learned that at my Catholic school where they call Nov 1st "Toussaint" (all saints), and so the day before a "holy" day like that would be an "evil" day. Weird and not Biblical, again, but kinda cool.

That is interesting...I thought people in England (and Europe in general) were more liberal minded than most Americans. I read that Christianity is not a popular religion in England...I read that druidism and Wicca are the main ones, so I guess Halloween in general is a popular holiday. |

Wow "trick or treat" must be very different in the UK compared with the U.S. Here in the states the typical "trick or treaters" are children between the ages of 0-15, they dress up and go door to door in their neighborhood knocking on doors and proclaiming "trick or treat". The adults in the houses respond by giving the kids candy and ooooing and aaaahhing over their neat (or cute) costumes. Nobody usually does anything seriously frightful to the children (or vice-versus). _________________ "I used to be indecisive.......... Now I'm not sure."

| I look at this way, God owns every day. None of them belong to the Devil and so a day is what you do with it. If you worship Satan or practice pagan worship on any day you've got a problem. My kids dress up in non horror costumes and they go out and get candy. Nothing to do with the devil. | |

| Even if I wanted to,I couldn't do Halloween. Since I have to work that night(as usual every year) I am in bed asleep til 9pm.
By the time I get up ,dressed and leave to go to work every one is back at home and off the streets.
