Third Day frontman Mac Powell to do *GASP* a country album

Third Day frontman Mac Powell announced this
week that he has plans to release his first solo album---a country
project! Rest assured that Powell has no intentions to leave Third Day,
who are currently recording a new studio album as a band. For all the

Some Exciting News For Me To Share!

I can’t tell you how excited I am to tell y’all the news that I
have made a Country record! I grew up listening to Country music, and
I’ve been hearing for many years from friends, family, and fans that
they would love to hear me do a Country album. After so much
confirmation, I started feeling like I couldn’t NOT make a country
record (does that make sense?). So, I went to work.


There have been so many times in the past that I had song ideas
that didn’t really fit lyrically or musically with Third Day. I filed
those songs away to the “maybe sometime” category. Well, that time is
now. I started working on these songs, and a whole bunch of new ones,
off and on about a year ago. Then, I had the chance to record the songs
with some really talented musicians. I am very happy with the results,
and I cannot wait to share it with you!


Before anybody freaks out, the answer is “NO!” Third Day is NOT breaking up!
We are actually nearly finished with a brand spankin’ new album that
we’ll be releasing this fall, with a tour to follow in the spring of
next year. We’re really excited about the material, and appreciate what
we have in Third Day more than ever.


There are still many questions to be answered with how and when my
Country record will be released, but my hope is that it will be sometime
in the next few months. Also, I’m planning on firing up the old van and
trailer and getting out there on the road to play the music wherever I
can for whomever is willing to listen.


You guys have supported and encouraged me for many years now, and I
don’t take it for granted. I would deeply appreciate all of your
thoughts, prayers, and help in this coming season! I look forward to you
guys hearing the music and seeing what you think very soon.

I actually don't mind this. While I probably wont buy it (although I'll at least give it a chance) I have no problems with him trying this. Before I really got into the band's music, I always used to say he has a voice more suited for country music. I'm glad to see that he's finally giving country music a shot, and as long as Third Day still lives and remains his top focus, more power to him.

This could be really good (assuming he doen't go all seriously modern/pop country which would be blech).

I agree with ST, that Mac's voice should fit really well in country music. I will have to listen to it before I commit to buy it, but I'm looking forward to hearing it.

If you listen to many modern country bands, Third Day could just as easily be classified as pop-country as they could southern rock.

That's what I was thinking as well. I only really liked the first two albums.

Actually, I think that these last two were on par with their debut album.

Never heard those. I've only got so much patience when a band strays into areas I don't like. I lose interest pretty quickly. There are a lot of bands out there...

Well I can't say that I listen to much modern country at all, but what I heard I wasn't very crazy about.

Kinda not surprised. Third Day is pretty close to country anyway at times. I never really thought of them as southern rock...of course I am so old school in my thinking ...Outlaws, Skynyrd and maybe even hank jr. strike me as southern rock.

If you just went by what Christian stations play of Third Day on air, no one would call them southern rock. But, when you listen to full albums, it'd definitely there.

My wife is very excited about this one. She's always loved Mac's vox and she also loves contemporary country, so this is a win-win for her.
